As I begin venturing into low sec (and losing ships) I learned quickly that I needed the skills for vamps (which I obtained) but I was wondering what (if any) is the best defense against these mods. One corpy suggested always having a bigger vamp than the other guy (yeah right). So what are your suggestions?

All I can think of is to stay out of there Nos range, or a cap injector may help. not sure about that one though.

as it is now, the best defense to a vamp is (you guessed it!) another vamp! Currently there is no direct defense, which i STILL find utterly ridiculous, but either fit a few vamps yourself, or stay out of their range, which is usually not that far. Shaper and destroyer of worlds... i love my job!

Use 1 or 2 vamps as secondary weapons. A cap injector really helps and if you are a good damage dealer it can sustain you long enough to break an enemies tank anyway. Drones and part of your tank being passive also helps. If it is a common/specialised Vamp set up like a Domi it needs shutting down fast with ECMs. As said before gettign out of range is also a good move but in a fight that can be difficult.

Already been said, but cap injector are the bane of a nos users life :P It will negate the nos/neuts effects so long as you have boosters.Your signature is too large! Please resize it according to the forum guidelines. Jacques Archambault

Cap boosters are not the "bane" of nos ussers. Most heavy nos setups will force you to burn your cap boosters very quickly and even then you will probably not have cap to run what you need to run. Also when you use a cap booster you are fueling the nossers tank, if you are dry then he is dry. Sadly in reality ecm or other nos are the best counters to nos (wake up ccp).

The indirect counters to Nos are passive tanks and 0 cap weapons. Although really that's more direct, rather than less.* * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move. -Douglas Adams, writing about EVE

nos ideas - cost cap to activate - cost cap on failure, fixed amount or the difference of max nos drain - amount drained = amount you lose. ex: You hit target with a medium nos, it should drain 30 cap. However your opponent only has 10 cap, so you lose (30 - 10 = 20) 20 cap. - make it drain a percentage instead of fixed amount so you can't nos someone dry. possibly limit the max drainable amount. - stacking penalty for activating multiple nos on same ship - incorporate sig radius or something into the equation so bigger ships can't instapwn smaller ships

I came up with a couple. -Activating a Cap booster while you are being nossed as a % chance(no more than 30%) to overload the nos rendering it useless for a set period of time (maybee 30 seconds). -Add a skill that increases your resistance to nos/nuets by 5% per level.

Cap injectors counter Nos for armor tankers. When you can inject the charge, then immediately consume it with your repairers so that you get the benefit but your enemy does not get to live off your cap. This does not work for shield tankers because your enemy will eat the left overs. Or maybe shield tankers can use smaller charges. Since you did not fit nos, you should be producing more damage than your enemy with your extra few weapons. Once his cap source runs out, you should win. However, this is not an overwhelming victory and the strategy is not all that dynamic. Your safer all around with your own Nos. ____ "If your not dyin' your not tryin'."
