This is ridiculous, as someone who doesn't buy or sell PLEX, I am infuriated that PLEX will undoubtedly hit 1b within 2 weeks.
Wait hang on, I'm getting something. Sorry, I was wrong, apparently PLEX are dropping in price.

Temporary drop to 770, back to 790 and going up.
Either people aren't buying plex, or the Jita bots weren't changed to not buy all plex under 790.
I'm leaning Jita bots fking it up :-) But who cares.

The real reason the tinfoil prices are so high is that it only used to be used for cooking, wrapping a sandwich, or making a protective hat to prevent mind control, now some people on this forum have started smoking it, causing a spike due to demand.
I think we all know who I blame for this.

I know a fix, ccp should just remove plex. all fixed.
for the 1000000000000000000000th time, if you want plex prices to fall, buy a bunch and undercut the other sellers. Simple. CCP needs to do nothing. Thats the point. its player controlled. you want then cheaper? flood the market. Don;t have the money? oh well. There are always going to be people who moan about the price of PLEX, if the price is high then people buying PLEX to extend game time are going to cry. If the PLEX price goes down then people who buy PLEX, people who save PLEX and CCP in general are going to cry. The Price drops too low and people stop subbing their accounts with monehs and start using PLEX because it is more affordable, and CCP cry some more. At the end of the day, PLEX has always been rising in price, it is part of the game, deal with it, or move on. As for being 'out of control', I wouldn't say so, it doesn't take a marketing expert to tell you what direction PLEX is going in, and when the price is going to be low. PLEX isn't a car you drive and steer and control the speed of. PLEX is more like a bus, you just have to go with it, and if you're smart enough you'll see the bus stops, and the speed limits, you'll know when it picks up and when it drops off. |

They can't sell unlimited amounts of plexes on the market, they can't stop people from stockpiling 2000 plexes, the only thing they can do is setting up a max price, but I'm not quite sure they're ready for that yet. They will have to anyway at some point just to calm down speculation because it's getting crazy.
Maybe one day someone will realize that free market can't work in a game when it's about real money trading. It's their business and they should set the price around what's profitable for them, not around what players want it to be. |

An option not yet explored is simply lowering the price of PLEX. The markup compared to a 30-day subscription is pretty huge. |

If stockpiling really was a significant factor affecting PLEX supply to the 'consumers' (those who use it to extend game time, as opposed to the pure traders), I don't think it would healthy for the game. Seems it would disrupt the natural balance between $-rich and ISK-rich players.
If that was the case, I wonder what would happen if PLEX had an expiration date. Say 6 months. EVE Online: Death-o-meter |

Yes indeed. CCP's customers are also EVE's content. It would be better for CCP to have an extra 10,000 people logging in even if that meant they weren't getting any more money, because the additional content those 10k people provide would attract, convert and retain still more customers. |

I don't buy or plan to buy plexes since paying for my two accounts isn't an issue and probably won't be one in the forseeable future, but thanks for your concern anyway. :)
The market isn't working because CCP admitted they had to correct it several times. If it doesn't work from a business standpoint for the company then it's just not working at all, and that's the only reason they need to correct the market or just remove the free market part from the real money trading if that's the only way to make it working as intended again.

Actually no the reality is a lot more complex so i'll try to make it clear since the issue hasn't been mentionned yet in this topic.
Excessively high plex prices aren't good for CCP for a simple reason: people selling plexes are often the ones with little time and a good disposable income. If you give them too much ISK for their real money they will buy less plexes even if they could purchase more. More expensive plexes also mean less people not paying every month for the game which means emptier servers and an empty universe isn't good for paying players because people play MMOs to have other people around (that doesn't mean they want to interact with them but that's another topic).
So high plex prices means that people get more in-game goods for their real money and don't need to buy more plexes. Since these people wouldn't play the game to get spaceships anyway, making them buy more plexes is easy to do, just give them less stuff for their cash. If you don't try to milk them too hard it will work, that doesn't mean they'll be happy to pay more but they will do it anyway. So the obvious way to sell more plexes isn't high in-game plex prices, it's actually lower in-game prices, because the vast majority of the plex buyers are a more or less captive audience and they will still need the same amount of ISK every month to meet their needs.
This is why there are sales and the eve central bank selling plex when the prices get higher too fast, because that's not good for their business, not because CCP is kind-hearted. They are trying to make prices go down but I'm not sure it's going to work without hard-coded changes. |

No, plex price has remained constant. The price of isk has dropped.
Cartels force the price of ISK up using minerals. Until/if mineral prices drop we wont see any change in the cost of plex.
Also, secondarily, there is a LOT of isk being generated in Eve compared to a few years ago. Anoms are pretty much the most market breaking concept in game. ESS's make this worse and ruins the LP market ON TOP of the ISK market. |

Non-sense. First of all no one is giving anyone ISK, they are trading PLEX for ISK. Someone went out and gathered that ISK with their time and their effort, they are hardly giving it away. Secondly, who made you the arbiter of marginal utility? Do you have the magical formula to measure utils in the face of unlimited demand, and do it for each and every individual? Have you accomplished something that no one on this little planet has never been able to accomplish before?
According to your "logic", giving people less for their money, and money from disposable income for entertainment, hardly a necessity, induces them buy more? You have talked your self into reversing all observed economic behavior for the last 7000 years, so much for your history degree. You are freaking amazing. That high powered self proclaimed PhD of yours is very impressive, it allows you to conjure myths and make them reality.
Perhaps you should look at the long term graph, the one that shows more and more PLEX sold by CCP. All the while the ISK price of PLEX is going up while the in-game prices of common goods are steady or falling. Why have more people been buying PLEX in the face of getting more stuff for their money, professor blow-hard? According to you, this should never have happened!
The answer is actually quite simple: you are wrong.

There are hundreds of historical examples proving it, and I suggest you don't try to initiate a debate with me on thius topic because at the end i'll be right, I have a phd in history and have better occupations than humiliating poor souls on the internet.
Stop arguing. Several reasons for doing so come to mind:
First, get ten economists from different schools in a room and see how long they take to reach consensus on anything. At least as many academics with brain pans at least as big as yours will disagree with you as agree with you.
Second, arguments about economics=doomed due to dogma. Hell, some people still believe that Trickle Down really happens somewhere other than after sex.
Third, because Internet. Ralph King-Griffin wrote: "Eve deliberately excludes the stupid and the weak willied." EvE: Only the stong-willied need apply.

Didn't read the thread so if I'm copying someone else, apologies.
Looking at the character bazaar, everyone is selling and no one is buying.
Character trading is a big chunk of PLEX movement in this game. Right now it's pretty stagnant. As all these alts don't sell and subs drop PLEX will follow the decline. No demand, no market and prices drop.
I say that as what it is now. It could completely change in a week or a month.
Mr Epeen There are 86,400 seconds in a day. You just saved one of them by typing 'u' instead of 'you'.-á Congratulations, dumbass! |

I thought trickledown economics referred to the saliva running down your face after the rich spit on you.

Removed a racist post.
After further review of the thread, I am closing it for the following reasons:
Quote:26. Off-topic posting is prohibited.
Off-topic posting is permitted within reason, as sometimes a single comment may color or lighten the tone of discussion. However, excessive posting of off-topic remarks in an attempt to derail a thread may result in the thread being locked, or a forum warning being issued.
16. Redundant and re-posted threads will be locked.
As a courtesy to other forum users, please search to see if there is a thread already open on the topic you wish to discuss. If so, please place your comments there instead. Multiple threads on the same subject clutter up the forums needlessly, causing good feedback and ideas to be lost. Please keep discussions regarding a topic to a single thread.
