Most of the posts I have read so far about the current state of Eve seen to be from the more experienced players. I decided it might be worth giving a n00bs view of the Eve world, one that has been playing for less than a month.
The first realization I came to is that it will be months before I can get a ship worth combating anything but <5k pirates. Knowing this, I grabbing Indy skills as fast as I could to join up as a hauler for a mining corp.
The next thing I realized is I will probably *never* be able to survive PvP combat. A battleship is months away for me since I usually have to try and make money in the inner systems for safety. By then Titans will probably be out, setting the bar simply out of my reach. We n00bs are far enough behind the curve we may never catch up in a productive way.
Eve seems to have set itself an awful lot like the real world, the people that started making money first now control vast fortunes and the means of proudction (like the Miner2s). The little guy is just trying to scrape to get by. The biggest difference is you have to scrape for survival in the real world. If we enjoyed scraping that much we wouldn't need to play games, we would have all the 'fun' we ever wanted in reality. We enter fantasy worlds to escape it, not to find new examples of it.
Just my two cents. |

This is probably in the wrong forum, but whatever.
In some ways I think you're right. Don't be put off though. Eventually you will get a BS and if you're inclined a Titan.
Unlike the real world you can succed in Eve. The big corps may well have some markets sewn up but there are still plenty of opportunities out there.
The secret is not to think of yourself as the little guy, keep plugging away in your own way and keep out of too much trouble. There will always be more succesful players in larger corps but don't let that get in the way of your own enjoyment.
Set yourself attainable goals and you'll be more satisfied more often.

Don't dispair. The climb to the top is the interesting part of EVE. I think what you have misinterpreted from older players is that once there ..... there isn't much to do. Being new the to game learning all it has to offer is exciting and persistance and patience will get you into a BS within 2 months. If you don't believe me contact my char in game and I'll help you learn the ropes from the easiest profession in the game... a miner.

You can still do battle in a frigate or cruiser, just not alone.

ahha? CCP have made it so easy to advance in EVE compared to when it was released, all ships were 3 to 4 times more then amount they cost now, dunno why but i feel its too easy to get a BS now

Edited by: TIvian on 02/10/2003 00:40:20 Outlander, I can undestand your frustration. and really you just need to have patience. just hang in there and train your engineering skills and combate skills and elctronic skill. contact me ingame if you need advice. and yes frigates and cruisers are just as fun as bs's I have chose not to get my BS just cause I love the cruiser class. and the frigs have made their way back as well so there is alot of hope for you and all the other noobs. plus this game is still really new....and your not at the bottom of the pile. things are going to get better and lots of stuff comming down the pipe! There is a lot more to EVE than obtaining a Battle Ship. Plus many of those individuals who have made it their sole conquest to get a battleship are not in the position to loose it, thus will not be the players you will have to contend with should you desire to fight other players.
Just below the surface of the super rich and powerful is a whole mass of people who play the game and are having a great time. Please do not form an opinion on the game from these forums. Just join in on the local chat channels in the game and you will see a lot of people are just like you and are playing and doing almost everything at all the different levels and having a fun.

sadly i can see his point.
when the game started, makeing money was amazeingly easy.
Mineing was a amazeingly profitable profession, and how the major names in the game got ahead, with the exception of m0o and their ilk, who got ahead by useing several very bad exploits.
be careful and try and have fun. hook up with a corp that shares your view of the universe and in a little while you'll be fine..
Peace and long life
