As time has progressed the overall need for these monsters has become very clear for 0 space users.
Problem being by far the ammount of time required to move a group of these to and from empire, they simply need a better method of getting around long distances and I think should be the only jumpcapable ship that can both use jumpdrives and gates.
Or alterantively Warp bridges be available on other capital shp types other than just titans perhaps the motherships too, or indeed all of them in some limited fashion where the bigger capitals can jump larger groups though a portal.
Or alternatively a jump portal ship.
When things become so time intensive they become a chore and this is supposed to be a game, and freighter runs from 0 space can drag on for upto 12hrs!
I know it was looked into for kali but scrapped? Is there some other alternative that's comming in to cater for this instead, it's sorely needed.

No way to jump drives for big freighters. But may yes to a freighter that can haul say 200-300km3. And it would have to be quite limited in range, and be able to mount some sort of defense.

Forget the jump drive on the freighters and just, for the love of all that's holy, LET THEM LOAD AND UNLOAD FROM POS ARRAYS!

If the pos array issue hasn't been fixed yet then that is indeed another major problem.

You should be able to push a freighter through a jump portal (soon) And no, they still cannot use arrays. Even if for just specific cargo types. Virtuozzo

Freighters should have no slots, it is designed for tipping vast quantities of 'stuff' into and moving from A to B, not for EW stuff. Fitting a cargo expander to a freighter is a nice idea, i would love to be able to do it.... but it goes against what the ship is.
About 1/3 cargo size (same physical size/mass), moves at same speed, jump drive capable, jump distance comparable to that of a carrier, double the fuel used compared to a dred.
what i'm pondering at the moment, is should it be able to use gates... my gut feeling at the moment is no.

not a good idea. people would only buy the caldari one. A freighter is about 'how much you can stuff into it' not 'how fast it is'. A lot of people would get upset if this happened, especially the gallente lot, which seems to be the predominant freighter used.

It would be great if there was a jumpcapable freighter with say 250k m3 cargospace and similar jumprange as a carrier.
I'd also like to see mineral/ore/fuel/ice haulers with a designated cargobay for these items (like a drone bay, but then for ore and such) that is much bigger than the current haulers, say a 200k m3 hauler (i.e. can pickup ore from space and dock at POSses) to facilitate transporting goods.

Well technically a freighter isn't a capital ship because it doesn't require the Capital Ship skill to be piloted.
But I do like your idea of limited use ships that can make jump bridges. Call it a Mobile Stargate, that would be pretty cool and would definitly make moving freighters around easier. Although if they do make a Mobile Stargate, you'd probably need constellation sov first.

The skills needed are pretty close, except you dont need all the gunnery and defense. They should just create tier 2 freightors. They should have jump drive capabilities. Also like warp bubbles should be able to setup trade lane cynofield gens. Like u can drop a whole bunch then setem off as you need. Carriers are used alot to transport in and out of 0.0 kinda silly that a ship thats meant to haul cannot jump. its big enough and is considerd a cap ship. I mean anything that can hold that much should be. Also Jump drives should have a skill that lets other ships jump with it. such as frigs. One huge dissappointment in eve is simply the carrier and motherships cant hold anyone. Thats stupid. You should be able to atleast tag along. Its far to easy to hide. There should be some element of surprise if a cyno field comes up you should never know if the carrier or freightor or cap ship will come in with a fleet near it of AF/s or cruiser i can see leaving battlships out or limiting all the amounts based on skills. Ie make a leaderships skill and a jump drive skill even warp engineering skill. but the fact that the carrier is a one man ship is kind dumb. I mean when i first saw it i was so dissappointed to see that when u dock you in space in a pod thats stupid. Should be a real carrier carries ships, and real pilots.
