Rapier is MADE for Solo Pirating. Plus its awesome at it.
Keep them at 20k with webbers and scrams, And Smack the Poo out of them.

it's agreat pirate hunting ship too, using pretty much the same setup. most pirates tend to be close range, so this works nicely in your favour.

With good skills and the right setup, yes. Unlike covert ops frigates, recon cruisers actually have the firepower to do something about a target once they find one.
And in a gang, theres no question as to how useful they are. Im speaking as a mercenary, but theres no reason the same concepts and setups arent applicable to pirating, assuming you arent talking about tanking sentry guns in a recon ship or anything like that.

Arazu is good aswell, problem is you cant really beltrat with them. Roids on inwarppoint are so *&%$#@ anoying. 60% of warp in you will be decloacked and hang there with your pants down. _________________________________________________

I love sentry tanking in my Pilgrim. I have a really nice setup on mine that tanks for about 3 mins

Rapier have 6 medslots, cant see how you can say something like this :l I guess its up to each pilot what is the best ship.
And to the question the answear is yes, they can and they do it easy.

My moneys on my Pilgrim killing a Bs over a rapier, It could tank you all day long. Pilgrim will take a long time... but it can kill "some" battleships

Edited by: Lord WarATron on 06/07/2006 12:11:30 Edited by: Lord WarATron on 06/07/2006 12:07:17 Curse and Pilgrim are the only recon ships that can mount a good tank, good damage and lots of EW/NOS. I could even imagine a Curse in a gang fitting all nos and 6 20km scramblers, since with skills, the Nos range on the curse is around 30km.
The weakness is in dealing with Missile Ships, due to the fact that the both the Curse and the Pilgrim have paper hitpoints. I usually counter this by having a dual t2 med rep tank with 2 EAM II's and a t2 thermic hardner on my Pilgrim, however it is scary to see your armour bob up and down very fast.
The second issue is maintaining your tank once you have sucked the opponent dry, but this is usually not much of an issue since you can tracking disrupt the enemy (you did kill enemy drones off dident you?). Also, the worst case scenario is where you take on a raven that has dual heavy nos - I did this once and although I got the raven to half armour after a long battle, I found it hard to maintain all my mods even given the NOS bonus. Ultimatly in situations like this, your scrambler powers down letting the opponent escape. If the opponent had cycled his dual heavy nos, then I would have been in big trouble :)
EDIT: I also thought that I would mention that with recon lvl4, A pilgrim can suck dry the cap of most bs's, with the apoc being the next to impossible to such dry unless the apoc is using lots of mods, or the pilgrim has a cap booster and uses neuts. The Curse, however, can suck dry all standard bs setups.

Ive rat hunted in 0.0 in my arazu just fine. Ive tanked triple 1.5mil battleship spawns with it. The only real issue is that it doesnt have the firepower solo to take down the tougher BS tanks. If you have T2 drones and good skills you can take down most of the "basic" 0.0 battleships though.

Oh and it should be mentioned that a viable rat hunting setup in arazu bears absolutely no resemblance to a viable pvp setup.
im pretty sure madaluap means 'shooting people' with 'beltratting', why would uncloaking on roids matter otherwise eh
Also the OP wanted pirating-setups not npc setups so...^^ ___________________________ Brutors Rule! My Eve-vids; Click. |

true, the decloaking is a major problem with recons. but the few times you manage to stay cloaked ships like the pilgrim rocks big time

The pilgrim is an awesome ship.
I fly it and think its overpowered.
It has a nos bonus, TD bonus (awesome) and drone dmg bonus.
It also makes a stunning anti pirate ship.

If I were "skilled" enough to use a Recon I wouldn't simply warp to the belt. Instead I would warp to bookmarks 200km above a belt so I can then warp to a roid or w/e @ 20km and work from there.
So yuh, problem solved. 80 days until I can fly a recon though. :( - nerf 0.5+ |

Rook can take a BC solo in blets ect.... (not gates or stations) although they can see you coming a mile off.
The falcon is more limited in what it can do, but you can take cruiser and smaller with it (shame it doesn't have drone bay)

Isthar is far more powerfull with its drones, but the pilgrims nos has the strength of over 3 heavy nos and it can warp cloaked. but in the end i wouldnt wanna fight a ishtar with my pilgrim

It is possible to take on a unplated BC while tanking sentry gates, if you have a 1600mn and a rcu. Gives you about just under a minute of sentry tanking, lets say 20-30 seconds allowing for the opponent shooting you. --- Slot 10 Akemons Modified 'Noble'Zet 5000 implant +8% Armour FREE |

Arazu and Lachesis are great ships, but they're better for support than solo work - the arazu can be used to wear down solo snipers mind you quite well.
Both lack firepower though - not that I'm complaining as they do make powerful support ships.
Domination disruptor + arazu = insane scram range
