Has anybody tried to run the current EvE Build under Vista Beta 2 ? I did try but the installer came back telling me that "Eve needs directx9b or better". Funny as Vista Beta 2 comes with directx 10 :-).
Has anybody had more success ?

If you look around a bit, you'll find a registry key that needs to be entered in Vista to get Eve working - I don't remember it off the top of my head, but its the lack of that key that causes eve to hang on startup on Vista.
The DX warning is just because Eve doesn't recognize your version of DX, but it will try to run even if you have a bad version - and it'll run quite well on Vista and DX10.
Just remember that Vista is beta and thus full of debugging routines that'll slow it down some, not to mention increase its memory footprint some (at least I hope thats why its using so much ram :) ).

(Off topic) I remember a unnamed mirosoft employee say that all debugging flags etc. are removed when it goes into the build lab, so im afraid thats not true.

No builds leaves Microsoft with the debugging flags still in them. I don't think you'll see memory usage reduce dramatically on the RTM build.

Hehehe, yeah, that excuse has been used in the last 20 years and probably more for any OS I know of Slugs and bloats in beta were always slugs and bloats in release, often even more, new OS always requires new hardware or fanboi's eyes to be appreciated.
Back to more serious things ... Xipe Totec ... Swooping Eagle ... Zweihander ... Deneb ... now that's some memories
