I just read the news that the french team returned home from WC and only about 100 fans where waiting for them. Also the french football association stated the team wont get a formal receipt (or whatever it is called in english).
What's up with that? You guys are vice champion and your team really did a good job. Don't they deserve a little more than that?
Just some afternoon thoughts..

That is because your information source has fallen in the "creating the information" is more profitable than "reporting what's really happening". And what is really happening right now in France is quite far from what your were asked to believe. --

Might be.. It's not the most reliable newspaper out there *cough*, but at least a little truth is always in it *shrugs*
Also the news about the receipt is supposed to come from FFF. Now I only speak 3 word of french and that includes baguette and croissant, so I'm not able to see for myself on the FFF homepage..

Sorry, can't find any source that aren't in french. Just a quick sum-up. The French team was recieved by the President and then they moved to the Crillon hotel where they were applaused by the crowd (don't have any numbers but it seems quite large). --

Perhaps they have some grudges about yesterday match. I have a great idea: I suggest to all the French people to avoid eating baguettes for some days, and to boost their morale they should..... EAT PIZZA!!!!

Not including Zidane, I trust. The only place he deserves to be is the inside of a prison cell, for criminal assault. ________________________________________________

I think it's fairly common knowledge now that the Italian players are a bunch of thugs and cheats. I hope they enjoy their trophy AND playing in the minor leagues when they get back home.
Also, McBride didn't say anything to de Rossi. That's the MO for the Italian players from what I've gathered. They were ****ed that they'd just knocked in an own goal and the US were playing them tough. Had to send a message. Deutschland. |

If zidane was to be judged, he would have to be judged in Germany. Yet, someone has to bring this thing to court and I don't think the italian player seems very keen to do such a thing.
I don't know the German law but in France, Zidane would risk a 750 Ç fine at most. Funny enough it is the same fine someone would have to pay for a non-public racial insult (as in it was directed only to Zidane and in "private") .
ps: since the italian player was running like a rabbit as soon as the referee gave the red card, it is not considered as an assault with what we call "ITT : Interruption de temps de travail". In short : if the italian player was not able to carry on the match, yes, Zidane would risk much more in court. Yet, as I said at the begining of my post, since the incident did happen in Germany, it falls under German Law, not French. --

If the press has reported the comments made to Zidane accurately then I completely understand why he reacted the way he did. If somebody had said something like that to me I would kick the )(ú")(*!"! out of them.

Very much so, with praises from the president, for his genius and heart.
As for ignoring him, giving his history, and the world cup doing something such would indeed be childish - he nearly won the damn thing for france; they wouldn't be in the finals without him (no wonder he was picked as the cups best player). So he lost himself for a minute, not the first scalp either for Materazzi, and he should be abolished?

Absolutely. I still can't believe FIFA only banned him for four games, and let him get back into the final ________________________________________________

Portugal got on 4th and everyone still made a lot of noise when the players arrived. The thing is, because France has already won a World Cup, the 2nd place is no big deal anymore.

Look the fights in hockey... if people aren't charged for the fights in hockey, then Zidane shouldn't be charged for the head-butt. Still, he deserved his red card. In hockey, and blow either with or to the head gets you the game (and more). In Rugby, a head but will get you red carded and given several games after that for intent to injure. In football, you can't strike with or to the head.... so Zidane got what he deserved....but by all accounts, so did the Italian.
The state of Soccer/Football is disgusting... players rolling around like spoiled children. I play Rugby, and if I ever am on the ground doing any of that, its for 3 reasons:
1. Something of mine is either sticking out, or bent at the wrong angle. 2. I'm bleeding profusely 3. I'm out cold.
There should be a rule that if you go down "injured" more than once in a match, you get taken out. Or, play continues while the physio or athletic therapist tends to you (like in Rugby). None of this "kick the ball out" BS... you play a man short. If play has to stop, then the downed player comes off.
That would stop all those fakers!

To echo the rugby based sentiments theres an awful lot football could pick up from its younger brother. The fourth official should be a video ref. There are as many situations in football where a video ref would be useful as in rugby yet the FA's refuse to implement it. The concept of injury time I find extremely silly when you can simply stop the clock in dead ball situations. This would help prevent childish time wasting and force teams to play out the game properly. My last and main gripe is whats been seen far too much in this tournament which is the protesting and pleading with the referee. In rugby at all levels there is a simple unwritten rule: the only players who talk to the referee are the captains. A rugby player running up and getting in the face of the ref protesting for a card would quickly find himself the recipient of one. There's no excuse for it. It's simply bad sportsmanship and puts unfair pressure on the referees who these days are expected to take it.
It's about time that the professionals got paid solely for their football ability and not their ability to act like children on a world stage.

You have that back to front. A criminal assault is a criminal assault, no matter where it occurs. That wasn't any kind of a tackle; he attacked a man in cold blood, and could quite easily have killed him. ________________________________________________

well you should correct that to hot blooded, not cold blood, and I doubt that the well trained mazaratti would succumb and die of a headbutt to the chest.

When you are under effort a headbutt to the chest can be lethal. ________ In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities, in the expert's mind there are few.
