I know this is something of a limited bit of intrest, but thought I'd share at any rate.
It's a dashboard widget that'll pull the XML file and show you current training as well as ISK.
I didn't create it; but I did modify it so that it has an updated skill listing, as the original author quit playing EvE and also quit updating the widget as well.
And, with no further ado:

So uhm, forgive me for being dumb... but don't you need to log in to the EVE site before you can check your skills and all that?

No, you can check out your skills and attributes by clicking "My Character" in the menu on the left. You have to log in to change skill, though.

Yeah, but to see you character the eve site has to know what account/character you're using, and for that you have to log on to the site.

Right, but the widget will do that for you; it's got a php script in it that downloads and parses the character XML you can download.

Is the source code available for this? Since you said a php script is used for the connection to the EVE Insider I guess that might help. But this just coming out of no where, I think people would want it confirmed that this is not a phishing attempt before using it. Thar be Pirates

What I'd really like to see is a complete OS X version of eve.
A question for all the techies, is an OSX version of EvE more likely now that Apple are using Intel chips instead of IBM?
Would anyone else like an Apple version of the EvE client?

Eve for MacOS = unlikely
But maybe it could work with some WINE-based thing for MacOS, I think there is one in development.

I've tried Eve on a macbook pro running Windows XP. It's only waroking so-so tbh. You can do a couple of lvl4 missions before something with graphic-cards doinks up. No idea whats happening and i cant screenshot it (computer freexes up)

Code wise There are no links to other sites than the eve-online.com one so far.
Functionailty So far, I tried it out with a trial account (always a good method of testing this kind of stuff) and after filling in username/password, and clicking what appears to be the "Get characters" button (the icon that looks like a reload icon I think), nothing happens. I've flipped the widget over again, and have been waiting for about 5/10 minutes now, but still no change. As to the reason it's not working: It depens on PHP being installed on your own machine, so that means making this work requires at least Apache 1/2 and PHP4/5 installed on your mac and working as well. (if you decide to install this stuff, try http://hostname.local once done to verify).
Idea 10 out of 10! Now here's hoping someone picks it up and makes it work without PHP as that would rock so hard. Being able to check up on more than one character using the same widget would be a plus too.
Dude, thanks for finding it again. I'll have a looksee and create a goodlooking interface becoming an OSX Widget, instead of the crappy one it has now :/ |

I tried that out last week, currently can't install eve with. Gets a fatal error shortly after accepting the license agreement.
But its a start, and should only get better.

As Kahlen didn't really do anything apparently, I figured I might as well mess around in the spare time I have (if any) and thus came up with the following. In my opinion it fits the dashboard a bit better with this skin as compared to the old skin.
Screenshot is here. New zip file with widget can be found here.
Hope you guys like it :) -----------------------

Oh yeah, it's just a zip file with the code in it.
WTF is a widget?
Edit: Hey, this code is just like mine I thought that needing three cURL sessions meant I was being inefficient, but I guess they really are needed. ----------

I would guess that if this were an attempt at gaining peoples username/password, they wouldn't have made it for OSX, but for Windows instead.
I mean really...
"Hmm, I want to scam accounts from Eve. 99% of users are running Windows, 1% are running OSX... I know! I'll make an OSX widget!" ___
"And I don't feel any more guilty about liking baseball more than soccer than I do about not using the metric system or speaking Italian or owning an ABBA album."

Well, I was doing something, but it just didn't really work out ;) Anyways, I like it. Got two of them in Dashboard right now. Thanks for the effort, it looks spiffy enough next to the other widgets ... |

Sir, I work during the day. The machine I work on is a nice powerbook running OSX 10.4.7. If it's all the same to you, I'd prefer to be able to (albeit limited) check on how my skill and my account is doing at a glance under OSX than having to have a Windows machine here running EVEMon or being logged into the forums all day to view my Character sheet. Yes, I have Windows at home, for the sole purpose of playing EVE. I have basically next to nothing further installed, besides TS and a good browser. So why would I want to run Yahoo! widgets again? :)
By the way, I'm not the only EVE player working on OSX by day I think. Yes, it may be a very niche crowd, but catering to a niche crowd if possible I think can't hurt if not much time is involved. In general, it usually means more happy users...
Besides, if you permanently run Windows anyways, why would you want to make a Yahoo! widget out of it if you have stuff like the excellent EVEMon? (someone PLEASE port that to OSX btw, me love you long time ) -----------------------

I have no idea what you mean. I have been running EVE on a Macbook Pro for months and it runs far better than my PC. Oh yeah, there is an ATI screen at startup, which you can disable. It's actually in that same dialog. Not a single crash or problem.
Back on topic: Thanks a LOT for the widget and the new skin as well! I use OS X by preference, as I am a Graphic Designer and UNIX hog, and this was just missing in my life. I am working with the idea to make one which stores the XML after startup so you can check skill time offline after reboot (let it sync XML at command or at skill end time). I can look into the PHP requirement too, I will add something here if I figure it out. Thanks again!

This made my day. Thanks Darth for the find and Ryushe for updating it to look real slick. I use my mac for day to day stuff and only log on to my xp box when I play eve. This allows me to keep a quick eye on when to flip a skill. thanks!

This is excellent. I am a mac tech by trade, and also got a Windows machine for playing eve and enemy territory (back when it was Windows only)
This is far better then logging into the website.
Thanks and keep up the good work.

He did say a good browser. Safari fails that criteria. Now, Camino is another story as is the DeerPark version of Firefox.
