Hi All. My corp has finally managed to get some power in the BS area and I would like to know if it is possible to go to 0.0 space to mine some rare ores in relative safety. Im not worried about NPC pirates as I have lots of experiance against these. Its more PK's im worried about. I have spent most of my eve life mining and trading in safe areas and would like to explore the game more now. Anytime I have ventured into 0.0 space im blown away by PK's. So now that we have BS's will we stand some chance of mining safely in 0.0? Anyone who can aswer this your opinions will be appreciated. Thanks.

It's getting more difficult to mine for high end ore, with all the alliances out on the outer rim, but it is possible. I mined Bis in 0.0 space for a few weeks, and had a bunch of indies hauling the ore back to a station 30 jumps away.
Make sure your indy pilots us gate instajump bookmarks.
My corp mined about 30k Bis in one system before we had to move elsewhere...
It is possible, just not easy.

But is 0.0 mining really worth it? With the small rock suituation, it doesn't sound worth it when instead of jumping from belt to belt mining all the bistot out, you could be strip mining say a, 0.4 or 0.5. Without the bother of PKers..

Come to JK-FIX under Khanid, it's relatively safe there as CFS is keeping pirates away.

Hence the reason we had to move out after a couple weeks.
We did not stick around to fight the baby roid issue. We try to find "virgin" belts, or belts that have not been touched in for a long while.

according to rumours, the bistot is once again growing.
I cannot confirm this, although Morkt D. or Cao Cao probably can. .

I got sucky baby Bist roids last night. But then it's a busy area, and they were prolly new from being stripped the night b4...
On the original topic, IMHO if you are new to 0.0 space, you shouldn't be mining there. If you want to explore it, start with a shuttle, Vigil or if you can afford to lose it, a Blackbird kitted for speed and WC stabilizers. Once you've explored a bit, I'd do some group rat farming for better modules (so that you have some experience with the local NPCs before trying to mine there).
IMHO mining Bist ATM is pointless unless you are in a claimed region near a station. Crokite, Gneiss and Dark Ochre are findable and okay for Zydrine, if you're wanting to be in 0.0 anyways, but in terms of profitable mining carebears still rule. I'm going back to empire space with more than enough Zydrine to BYOM my next battleship, but I'll be buying the rest of the Megacyte I need, since I got only 1.5 Bist refines out of 2.5 hours works. Guess I'll be mining Scordite for awhile
Once mobile refineries are in game though, all bets are off. I for one will be off in the middle of nowhere with most of my corp, needing only 1 indy a day to haul home puuuure Megacyte and Zydrine :) Or maybe just BS with a big hold :) There is tons of good Bist out there, but at 25 or 30 jumps from a station, what's the point ATM?

I spent a week in 0.0 space, and the problem with mining it is the rarity of stations. For every ship mining, you need 1 ship to haul for every 3 jumps to station.
So, if you mine 20 jumps from Gehi, you need a miner, and 7 haulers.
How many corps have 88% of their population wanting to be truckers?
Frankly, stripmining a 1.0 can be more lucrative if you only care about cash.
If you need lots of Mega for production then 0.0 space is the place to get it, but you can just buy it too.
I could have stripmined a 1.0 for a week and BOUGHT more Mega for my corp than would have been my share of what my corp brought back.
There are probably ways to be more efficient, but if you have to ask about 0.0 mining, you are unlikely to be any more efficient than we were.
