Hi all,
Having been playing Eve for a while now it is becoming quite necessary to team up in order to have fun. Having most people in remote timezones makes it hard to recruit new members so perhaps it would be better to find other corps/alliances which have players in my timezone. I heard about ANZEP but the website http://eve-anzep.iwgn.net/ does not seem to do anything.
Are there other Australian and NZ player groups around?
If not, should I go ahead and create a site/forum/resource for local ANZ players?
Maybe we could get an actual CCP sanctioned site ahppening like other countries have?
Mik Brisbane.
Maybe just posting in this thread would work for a while?

I'd be interested in a +10 GMT corp as well, but I don't want to join a corp just cos they're in the right time zone!

I'm a new player (still on trial, but liking it so far) living in GMT +9. Looking for a fun corp to join for mutual benefit! Probably more into combat or mission running that mining, but whatever...

This sounds like a great idea! There are many Aussie corps scattered about the place and it would be awesome to have a site/forums where we could all come together. In time, this could even form the basis for alliances and NAPs.

EDIT: BTW Mik, if you change the title of this thread to something like "Aussie & NZ Corps Pls Read" you might get more interest. I missed this thread the first time b/c I glossed over "ANZ". Then again, not everyone is as lazy as me!
Thanks
Good idea. Changed the title as suggested. |

Mik,
I have posted the link in the ANZAC forums, so you should get plenty coming to have a look. You should also get the link added to the MOTD in the ANZAC chat channel.

Absolutely, this is a great idea!! How many NZ players are there?? I get the feeling there are plenty of Aussie players, but not that many Kiwis.
Anyway, it'd be great to have a spot to plot. :)

I'm continuing to do this (and happy to have the chance to bump this thread).

Aussie and NZ'er public forums would be at the top of my list.
It would also be great to simply build a list of Aussie and NZ'er players and corps.
While not really a feature, you'll need a name (like your "ANZ" tag) that includes all Aussies and NZ'ers and which won't be confused with being part of any one Aussie or NZ corporation or alliance. While not a great example, you might consider a name along the lines of The Antipodean Association - Clicky. I'm sure you'll come up with something better than that though.
Depending on how you host the web-site, you might even consider hosting voice comms channels for smaller corps (for a fee to help pay for the site).

- Provide ideas about the issues our time zones cause us and what could be done by us to fix it.
Well we lack ISD run events in our time zone so the site might encourage Antipodeans to apply to join ISD.
While daily DT occurs in our prime gaming time, the site might point out some of the advantages to playing immediately before or after DT.
The site might also be used to advertise to European and US corps that Aussie and NZ corps make good alliance members to ensure a 23 hour a day security presence (ie to fill the time when they are sleeping/working). However, it would be better IMO if the site could be used to foster an alliance of Aussie and NZ corps. These two ideas are probably at loggerheads.
Well that's just a few very quick (and hopefully not totally lame) thoughts but I will try to give this some more serious thought.
I hope you get this off the ground Mik. I think you're bound to do very well with the support of Sharmina and ANZA! BTW, I really like the new ANZA site Sharmina - looking good!

This is a great idea Mik and I wish you well.
I would very much like to meet more of the down under contingent in eve, and a central community website would be perfect.

This all sounds like a great idea. It would be great to have a place where we can see what's happening in the australasian EvE community.
As for the numbers of NZ players, well, that would be hard to judge. From what I can tell, there aren't a huge amount of NZ based corps, and most of those that did exist assimilated into other larger corps, some being Aussie, others not. I would have at a guess at several hundred committed players, but I suppose with the possibility of EvE making an appearance at the Auckland Armageddon, we might be able to find out more.
And as a point of interest, if anyone is interested in joining what is a mostly industrial NZ based corp, look me up in game, and anyone is welcome to join our "Excom Public" channel.

I noticed there are a couple of corps posting here. Would you guys be able to provide a banner graphic and a short description of your corp to go with it?
Also, it would be good to have a couple of the corps volunteer a trusted person to help with the site maintenance and forum moderation team in the future as well. I don't want the fan site to be just one person's project but would rather it was more of a community effort backed by the corps and alliances based in Australia, New Zealand and TZ neighbours.
If there is demonstrably enough support then I will pay for a URL and webspace myself. Spending the money without me knowing that the there will be other on board helping would be worth it.

I'll be happy to flick you a banner and short corp Bio. Just let me know whether you want it here, or e-mail. As for helping with the site, I don't know much about maintaining a website, but I can certainly help mod a forums (do it for an anime community in NZ)
Keep up the good work.

Hi Mik,
I think an ANZ website is a great idea, especially as it's nice to know there are others around in Aus/NZ playing the game too.
If you decide to go down the PHP/SQL route I can help out with maintenance (or development if need be), just evemail me in game.
