Hehe yep I want to fit 1400mm artys on an apoc. Anyone ever done this before and does it make at least a little sense? All I would lose is the cap bonus on lasers but hey I don't need cap in order too shoot. Compared with a tempest I will lose the ROF bonus but gain on the damage (BS V gives you an equivalet of 7.5 guns with the 5% dmg bonus) On the other hand I gain alot from the cap bonus and I can have a better tank. Don't think that an apoc with projectils will be a better tempest but your target for sure will be in for a surprise
I await your flames and constructive critisisme with impatience --------------- When I was young I wanted to be me, my childhood dream came true |

Has been done long ago already. Unfortunately it's not as bad as it sounds. At least in fleet engagements where the ROF doesn't matter that much it's a fine setup. I wouldn't worry about tanking tho. If using 1400s you shouldn't be anywhere near your targets. And snipers aren't too hard to tank usually. Unless in a fleet, in which case your tank doesn't matter anyway (other than total HPs maybe).

It makes a lot of sense and has been done many times.
It's also useful to be able to change damage types.

errrrrrm.......425MM Apocs do a bit better imo due to trackin, but for big fleets 1400s are a safe way to go.

Bear in mind they get a ROF and a damage bonus.
So with BS 5 the ROF makes 6 guns into 7.5 And the damage bonus takes those 7.5 to 9.375.
At BS 4 it's not so apparent - only 8.64 guns.
And at BS 3 it's 7.935. Which would mean the Apoc was 'as good' as a Tempest. However the Apoc has better cap, and better fitting (for ratting at least).
But importantly, don't forget if you can get an extra damage mod on as a result - which is quite possible as you don't use cap to fire and don't have the same fittings hassle, then you'll boost the damage further.
The other bonus is being able to choose your damage types with Matari weapons, can't with Amarr. It's not perfect, but there's some choices you can make.
Do bear in mind though that while they have better range, they have worse tracking and overall lasers do more damage.

Edited by: Dark Shikari on 12/07/2006 11:01:12 The problem with the 1400mm Apoc is that to be honest, its just a cheap Tempest for someone who can't fly Minmatar ships.
The Tempest gets a total of a 66% DPS bonus from its RoF and damage bonuses (at level 5). The Apoc has a mere 33% damage bonus from having two more guns. Thus the tempest is about 25% better overall in damage per second.

Its amazing how many people think a 25% bonus to ROF is a 25% bonus to DPS.

Well I can fly minnie ships, actually only minnie ships apart from some frigs and still I don't have BS lvl5 that training time is better invested elsewhere atm, So if I get it right the 1400mm Apoc is fine and usable if you have lower BS skills, For my tank I have to admit that I had ratting in mind and maybe some lvl4 missions if I bother to get the standing sorted.
Out of curiosity has the 1400mm Apoc any advantages over a tachyon Apoc disregarding the damage type? (for camping and/or fleet battles)

In every game besides EVE, 25% ROF bonus = 25% DPS bonus. For some bizarre reason, CCP went against the grain and defined ROF as seconds per shot rather than shots per second.

Dude fit it with arties you will wet yourself. you can uber omfg tank with the nos cap loss due to lasers. not to mention the a-friggin mazing ease to fit em. take tachyons vs 1400's wow easy. but yeah you'll love it give it a shot. not to mention the ship has good low slots. another option is a geddon but the apoc is better because of the increased amount of turret points. *ponders tech 2 autocannons with uber amarr version of the stabber on geddon. 8 low slots... 3-4nano fibers, tech 2 mwd, one tech 2 armr rep, hardeners? 7 ac's think it would be fast?

Every instance of "Rate of fire" should be replaced with "Firing delay" and it'll all be fine.
FYI: Earth and Beyond's "turbo" had a system similar to the eve system for rate of fire until mudflation caught up with the devs and players were killing level 58 mobs in seconds. --- Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. - Emerson |

Ahhhh that was fun... 88% turbo or whatever and killing NPCs in seconds flat... that was hilarious .
And then they nerfed it....

100/1 + 100/1 + 100/1 = 300/3 = 100dps 100/0.75 + 100/0.75 + 100/0.75 + 100/0.75 = 400/3 = 133.33~dps zomg nerf
