What setup for the ferox would yield the most DPS? I have tried:
5 x Heavy launchers II
2 x 125mm rails II
4 x Large shield extender II
1 x Invul. field II
3 x Ballistic Control system II
1 x Shield power relay I
And this gives max damage of 295.7 per missile (fury) and a ROF of 6.8 secs. This is about 217 DPS. I read on another thread that 260 DPS from a BC is poor.

My T1 fitted Cyclone gives roughly the same DPS.
Solution: Don't use the Ferox, it's not a gank ship. Seriously. It's one of the most incredible tankers in EVE, but it hits like a kitten ramming a steel beam at full speed head-first.

 Pity, it's my favourite ship. The only other race I have skills for is Gallente, but I don't like the look of its BC and I don't like using drones.

For the other 3 races, 260DPS IS poor, but for the Ferox, you're having a hard time breaking 300 without blasters, and if you use blasters, people will laugh as you die trying to reach them.
200mm rails instead of the 125s, and 5 t2 light drones will push you up to around 300 iirc.
Drop an extedner and invuln for 2 racial hardeners if npcing too.

Ferox is not realy designed for ganking imo, but it can have a wonderfull tank and still do a choice of types of dmg which is one of the key ways to use the ferox. also the usuall thing about not having an optimal etc makes the ferox a ship if used correctly it can do a reasnoble amount of pain, also dont forget you can have 5 light drones in there as well if u want more dmg have 5 light scout II's if you want to Sincery anoy the apponent to hell and back fit it with 5 ec-300 drones, there like little mini i win buttons 
gank BC imo is the brutix got my setup to do 850dps and still have a dual repper hardned tank and cap boosting capabilities

I think you'll find a rack of 250mm with a pair of heavy launchers has better dps than missiles as primary weapons.
5x 250mm Compressed Coil Gun I [40xAntimatter Charge M]
2x XR-3200 Heavy Missile Bay
Medium Shield Booster II
Large Shield Extender II
3x Hardeners and stuff
2x Power Diagnostic System II
2x Linear Flux Stabilizer I

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I will try fitting it with 250mm's. I used to use them, but I changed to missiles cos I could use tech II launchers.

Edit: to put things into perspective my gank brutix hits 650 (700 with drones)

but on the other hand a passiv tanked ferox is quite hard to take
