I am a fairly new player to eve. only played 6 weeks now. I have asked in help channel and the only reply i get is to join a RP corp. Well i am happy with the corp i am in now. I would like to know how can i get involved in these 'events', find out where they are etc. Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

Apparently information about these are spread in different chat channels ingame.

First thing to do would be head on over to the "Intergalactic Summit" forum. General is pretty much for out of character(OOC). That forum is the in character (IC) forum. ----------------------------------------- Sig rented by Drethen Nerevitas. |

PIE and Oracle are the best RP corporations now, and it is helped because Amarr and Mimmatar currently have the best backstories and events. Its most fun to play a pompously religious Amarr slaver nut while Mimmatars try to be cool hip freedom fighters.
Caldari and Gallente however, still needs some story or racial character definition as well as a stronger racial identity (the Amarr still has the best of all). The Caldari-Gallente secret station plot now seems totally eclipsed with the Amarr emperor events and contests.
Yes I think there is a need for a good Gallente and Caldari RP corp in the same caliber as PIE and Oracle and all their associates or allies.

Edited by: Kilhu Emmek on 03/10/2003 10:20:10 Edited by: Kilhu Emmek on 03/10/2003 10:19:34 PIE and Oracle are indeed good RP corps, but there are other RP corps out there--all you have to do is look and ask around.
I think the Caldari and Gallentean backstories are just as compelling--they're more subtly nuanced, I'll give you that, but there's still plenty of room for really nice RP. A Caldari businessman who, while glad to take money from Amarr corporations for "services rendered," still has some misgivings about the morality of Amarr practices ... a Gallentean who is torn between the desire to see his Federation help their allies, the Minmatar, and his desire to just live a peaceful life free of struggle ...
Makes me wish I had two more character slots. ;)
I find the most satisfying RP is in the day-to-day anyway. It's not the big battles and the epic events for me, it's the casual conversation between corp mates about political realites--the question "would you ever be willing to make peace with the Amarr?" sparked an hour long debate in my corp, and all very "down to earth" in tone.
Anyway, if there are any Minmatar or Gallente looking for an RP corp, consider Gradient (links in the sig below).
If all else fails, Serilla, give one of us a yell and we'll try to loop you in on a "public" communication channel.
Gradient is hiring. Read our Code of Conduct before applying.

Thank you... but I really think it has more to do with the fact that our 'war' has gained some good publicity and we have a few vocal characters on each side O_o
There are plenty of other good RP corps out there. I have sneaking admiration for the People's Front of Minmatar.
Ran into one of their pilots for the first time yesterday evening and he was a funny chap. I took particular exception to his description of sexual acts with Amarr womenhood (as if any decent Amarr women would even look at a Minmatar)...
Individuals within non-RP corporations can develop a name for themselves also if they hang around the Intergalactic Summit enough.
Athule Snamm of Jericho Fraction is one example. Discorporation (when he was part of Xanadu) another...
It just depends on your own time, dedication and imagination... Good luck!
EDIT: BTW as part of Techell Corp I don't suppose you could find anyway to Roleplay 20 Miner II's into the hands of Amarr's leading loyalist corp could you . As we spend all our time RP'ing and chasing Oracle around we can't bloody afford to buy any ourselves

more unwanted advice, dont try to do fancy rp when your in the middle of combat. Its too distracting and you dont want to lose a ship because you talk too much.
This is not a hijack

There's a lot more RP going on than a lot of people think, and you don't need to join an 'RP-specific' corp to do it either. It can help I guess, but unless Techell is full of idiots (which I doubt) it's totally unecessary.
If you *only* do things on the forums people will notice fairly rapidly, but reading the forums and staying aware of what's going on in the wider world is a *must* even if you never post. Once you've done that it will be easy for you to contact people outside your corp and take things from there. Don't say 'please can I RP with you' just go for it! If that makes you feel uncomfortable then you could begin by raising issues with your corp for them to deal with others. E.g. you could try to convince them to give 20 Miner IIs to PIE (just an example you understand). Other things you can do is just talk through local and/or convos and ask people whose names you recognise about what they're up to, or if you or your corp are doing something tell them.
One last thing is not to ram RP down people's throats, not everyone RPs and even those that do sometimes are busy getting stuck in jump gates, running agent missions or lagging badly or whatever. That's not that you should let people go unaccountable for their actions. If I'm in 0.0 (sometimes higher ) and someone deserves it, I will shoot them if I feel it's appropriate - RPer or not

My corp pretty much stays in character, and I try and stay IC as much as poss, whether on the forums or in-game. Its a fun extension of the game, and adds a little more dynamism and interaction between players and corps and helps to drive player content. Most people drop in and out of IC in game, without really knowing they are doing it... -------------------------------------------- Dead

Roleplaying does exist in eve, altho in differring concentrations. My biased view is that it only takes the proper corporation to experience it

An interesting thread indeed.
As we are in OOC forum I can say that when I purchased EVE I did so as it was billed as an MMORPG. I used to play D&D and many other old skool roleplay games with pencil and paper and EVE is my first online RPG. It took me a whole day just to decide which race to play and when I finally chose Minmatar I came looking for a Minmatar RP Corp.
It took me a little while as I was in a corp not interested in RP and was being offered a quick leg up into cruiser etc but the dirty vessels on offer was Amarr This was not the way I wanted Estios to go so I left , despite being in a thriving corp, and found Oracle.
I appreciate that we have been mentioned previously in this thread and do truely hope that we bring a little RP go the game as I must admit , I was beginning to think that EVE was a bad choice for my 1st mmorpg. I have witnessed lots of people who were not remotely interested in RP and prefer to smack talk in local and scream 'Owned' and Leet whatever that means
But these guys pay the money to play and I have learned each to their own.
As Hardin and Athule and some others have mentioned , there are actually a lot of RP'ers out there and in this game the RP element isnt really manifested through events as such but more through the interaction of players in simple conversations and often in corp debates.
Also as advised the Summit forum is often a great source of Roleplay news and also helps highlight some of the corps and players trying to bring a bit more to the game.
I wish you good luck in your search and I urge you not to give up and settle as there are lots of good RP'ers out there.
About them Miner II's , we fight the good fight and really could use any help we can get to abolish the barbaric practice of slavery Surely a forward thinking respectable Gallente like yourself can appreciate what we stand for ...and perhaps see a few our way
Although your KOS list may say different So HMV consider Andy Williams and Dean Martin to be "easy listening" do they? Tell that to my mate Dave, he's been deaf for 20 years.

Oh sorry, of course a sense of humor bypass is also required.
Yeah Mr Happy, I've been roleplaying for a very long time now and I'm quite happy to mock the sterotype and have a laugh at myself - You on the otherhand appear to represent all that needs mocking in the roleplaying community.
Please stop taking everything so seriously
