You can fit up to 8 turrets on it, but 7 is more likely tbh. You'll need some proper engineerings kills. If you can only fit 4 you should try to use somewhat smaller rails.

I'd fit nos or neuts personally .. Or use a smaller caliber of guns so I could fill all 8 hislots with 'em.

You may want to visit the ships and modules forum since they get lot of info on ships setup and the like. Here a Linkage to it. Enjoy the reading.

I probably shouldn't use the abbrevations considering I'm writing in the newbie q&a ;s ..
Nosferatu (sucks capacitor from your opponents ship to your own) and neutralizer (kills your opponents capacitor, but takes almost as much from your own ship). Nos's are the most popular of the 2, as there aren't really any downsides to 'em other than the usual, ie. the use of a slot and powergrid/cpu.

also, another great tool to use when trying out fitting ideas is QuickFit. It will tell you what skills you may need for a module you want to use, as well as tell you how much cpu/power grid you are lacking-if aplicable. I find it and EveMon to be the two best and most used tools I have for Eve. With that said, Welcome to Eve and have fun!

A full rack of rails works, although I've experimented with 8x light electron blasters in combat before and found the damage to be quite nice. Experiment, see what you like better.

What you want are 125mm rails. A full rack of them to play to your strengths.
Now, the catalyst doesn't have quite the range of the Cormorant, but it has more juice. The role of the Catalyst is similar to the Coercer as compared to the thrasher and Cormorant.
Cormorant is for longest range, followed by the thrasher and it's nice volley damage. The Catalyst and Coercer are for medium range, the Catalyst just a little longer than the Coercer.
The advantage of a Catalyst or Coercer squad is that they can operate a little closer together, like when you all uncloak on a gate approx. 20-40km from one another. This gives all of you clear field of fire on anything orbitting your mates. The Coercer has the best tracking with either pulse or beams, but the Catalyst's intended operating zone means you can put less emphasis on targetting computers, and more on tracking computers despite the low mids. With all those lows, you tend to rely more on passive boosters, but you generally have room for a damage booster, at least on the Coercer.
The Cormorant and Thrasher can project force farther out, but they rarely get any second chances.
For use in operations against something other than interceptors, most destroyers have the cpu and capacitor to support eithre ew, especially damps, or 20km scramblers. Damps + 20km scrams can be very effective at keeping your mate's ships alive sans tank, and is a great range for popping drones.
Only damps can be valuable versus interceptors, but in a gang, it's better just to have extremely good locktime, range, and tracking in that order, and crystal clear precision for primaries on coms.
Don't stay in autofire mode. You're wasting the gang's firepower if you leave your guns cycling on a cepter that is orbitting you. The slowness of your shots means you need to time them for when the target has low transversal or is at near optimal range. It's a lot of keys to press, so if you have a keyboard macro, use it. Typically, you won't get many shots before A) You're toast, or B)the enemy is toast.
Look out for thoraxes and MWD/AC Min cruisers btw. You will die, but at least it will only be 600k worth of gear till you start upgrading it.
