Hi
New to the boards so apologies if this has been asked before.....
Just got a level 2 agent - yay!
First mission 333 veldspar - had it already - insta-mission - yay!
Second mission - save a mans career - blow up pirate - went out and promptly got myself blown up - bugger!
Have failed mission - will my agent give me any more?
also, how tough are level 2 mission baddies - my tristan didn't last very long.....
mind you i'm not very good at combat |

I wouldn't concern yourself too much over the failure. Two to three successful missions and you will be back on tract. I would suggest you take some backup with you next time or draw the fight out. Most of my level 2 missions (where I had to attack someone) were not too difficult, but I had my drones helping me fight also.

My suggestion to you combat-wise is to use long range weapons such as the 125mm Railgun. Throw in some light missiles or two and your Tristan will be a formidable foe, sort of.
The key is to keep the NPC rats at 10km+ and they should not be able to hit you for any significant amount of damage.
My level 2 agent gave me seek-and-destroy missions with small angel rats, never something that was even remotely dangerous.
It could be you need to beef your combat skills a tad, but I doubt it.

Thanks guys!
I must admit I was surprised by the strength of the foe (for a 36000 reward) - missiles and everything - I barely scratched him
Anyhow, will take your advice and stay at long range from now on!

Did he shot missiles or did you?
It sounds a littel extreme if a level 2 agent sends you up against a missile shooting NPC. I've never seen that myself.
All I was sent up against was angel pirates from 1000-2500 in bounty.

Not seen missiles in action before but I reckon he shot missiles at me - as I was orbiting him these things were following me for a bit before hitting me - knocking my shields/armour out in about great big lumps....
The mission description was really long - about saving a friend of the agents career, someone had stolen some encrypted blah blah blah....
The reward offered was about 36K - don't know the level of 'bounty' as I got fried!
I was shocked, as I had killed a serpentis 3k patroller in the roid belt earlier without hardly losing any shields.... so this guy seemed to be a big step up from that....
Mind you I could just be really bad!

At level 3 one of the missions has you up against a 50K rat that will knock the stuffing out of a single cruiser.

I see. Well, then you should try and orbit him at 10km or so while shooting him with your 125mm rails. A key element here is speed, try and go as fast as possible. The reason for this is that missile AI is a tad stupid, it will try to hit you but it fails pretty often when you are not flying in a straing line. It will eventally hit you, but not before a few failed attempts.
As I see it, the missile try and land the hit, but fails and then reverts to chasing you.

Many Thanks for the tips - will buy a new ship and kit it out with rails....
I suppose I could view it as a good learning experience. Will make sure i'm properly tooled up next time

My toughtest level 2 kill was a 6000 pirate... yours sounds even tougher. But maybe it was the 6k you met..

They need to differentiate the missions according to corp. combat missions should only (or mostly) be given by combat type corps, concord, pirates, etc...

ouch , getting killed in a lvl2 agent mission hurts . the closest i got to getting hurt so
far was in the "kill a 50k gurista" mission , he took out 20% of my shields :p
you defenitly want a cruiser for lvl 2 missions
and shouldnt have problems with any missions.
take care on lvl3 tho , those 50k's can be painful

whew, I got lucky.
I took on Kruul (30k rat) with no shieldbooster and a pair of small weapons... that hurt.
I probably would have died if I hadn't been MWDing, so 3/4 of his missles never hit me.
