Originally by: Eefrit I agree with the fact that shield and armor tanks should not be the same. In general I think they are evenly balanced with the exception of the officer mods... can we say Gistii.
The difference between a T2 shield tank and a Gistii shield tank is insane. No armor mods even come close to that level of tanking. Do we really want officer mods to make THAT much of a difference.
Numbers:
Gistii tank: 672Hp, 204 cap, 4 seconds, 43.125% boost amp with skills: 672HP, 183.6 cap, 3 seconds, 43.125% boost amp
This gives an overall: 320.6 HP/sec, 5.24 HP / cap
Compare this to the best Armor tank mods. Using Chelm's modified Large Armor Rep: 1260HP, 450 cap, 15 seconds with skills: 1260HP 450 cap, 11.25 seconds
This gives an overall: 112 HP/sec, 2.8 HP / cap or with 2 x Chelms: 224 HP/sec, 2.8 HP/cap
This is more than 43% better HP/sec, and 87% better HP/cap. Not to mention easier fitting imho. Also you could add a second SBA and then you would get insane levels of HP/sec and HP/cap.
T2 is different but balanced. Officer is nowhere near balanced.
***removed... didn't read all your post, sorry
My Apocalypse can use 8 Megapulses II, 2 Large Armor REpairers II and 3 hardeners forever as long as I don't get nosferaturized.
Personally, I think armor tank vs shield tank is balanced and different, a difficult achievment. Shield tank repairs more HP/S but armor tank is more efficient (cap wise). Gistii are simply overpowered POS. CCP will nerf them soon.

XLSB II, 600 hp, 5 sec, 400 cap; skills : 10% less capacitor, 25% less time. 600 hp, 360 cap, 3.75 sec. 600 hp/3.75 = 160 hp/sec 600 hp / 360 cap = 1.66 hp/cap now XLbooster II + Shield Boost Amp II, which adds 30% making it 780 per cycle. 780 / 3.75 = 208 hp/sec 780/360 = 2 hp/cap.
You've included some imaginary skill in the shield calculations that reduces the cycle time of shield boosters.
Numbers affected should be: XLSB II = 120 hp/sec XLSB II + SBA II = 156 hp/sec

EDIT: *hopes this works*
T2 is pretty much equal as is imo, but as said before gist mods + crystal set =
As for possible skills, -2% cap isnt to good as its just straight stealing of the shield-skill, why not get something funky like +2% hp boosted. That gives 880 on a T2 rep instead of the usual 800 at lv5.

Really I just wish they would remove the EM hardening component to EANs and EAN II's. Then all the armor tanking resists would be about
60/60/60/60
with racial ship resists providing a bit of variation and flavour.

That's another good option. Don't really care what form it takes, it would just be nice to have more than 1 skill that worked on an armor repairer. Afterburners have what, 3 skills? A second repper related skill doesn't seem too much to ask.

That'd be nice without being grotesque.
Hull Upgrades skill should do that, instead of the cpu reduction. Not one of the armor tanking ships I fly is short on cpu (maybe thanks to HU on the AF, but AWU seems more important for reducing cpu). It's PG and cap that bug an armor tank.
But I'll /sign for Advanced Hull Upgrades skill that reduces cap or pg for armor and hull mods.

If they nerf the faction boosters they better cut the cpu requirements on the x-large. Half the reason people pay so much for the faction is that fitting a T2-X-large is godawful, 215cpu for the lose.

And how about the explosive hardening of invulnerability fields (I'm not so sure that it's a good idea really, but it could be after all).
I think reducing the cpu requirements of active hardeners would go a long way if we want another reason to fit active hardeners more often, it never made any sense to me to have active hardeners require more cpu than damage mods.

On a side note, isn't shield tanking better purely because of the extra buffer? I have lost a couple of Mallers early on due to gambling on the armour/warp getaway times and lost out by fractions of a second, arriving at my destination in a pod.
With shields however you get the luxury of having your armour buffer as well as the hull.
Just my two cents :D "Wherever you go... there you are" |

Thanks for help :)
I REALLY wish you hadn't brought this question up. EAN's and armor comp skills work pretty well and make for a nice sustainable tank. Why don't I wish you to bring this up? The moment something works nice in this game someone will ask to nerf it. So if you find a nice combo like this that works well and it isn't too broken? DON'T MENTION IT OR SOMEONE WILL SCREAM IT NEEDS TO BE NERFED. Hence Aramendel's post. EAN and armor comp skills work pretty well, are popular and aren't broken. Enjoy them. There's several other things in this game that need balancing and much more in need of fixing. Like the bellicose. Is there anyway to make this ship not suck?
