First off, I am a fairly new player. I just got into my Ferox last week and am happily zipping through level 3 misisons. (Caldari Space)
On one of my last missions I ran into 5 Omber roids and decided to try mine them with my Osprey. Current setup the Osp pulls in 419.3 M3 so it works out to roughly 700 units of Omber every minute. That sounds pretty good until you realise that each Omber roid is 50k. That's 1 hr 12 minutes per roid not including hauling the ore back with the industrial.
I have looked at the various Ore ships and was wondering if one of you elite miners could let me know what the next ship would be. Obviously the Hulk is VERY out of my price range atm, so what other choices do I have? Preferable something that will chew through a 50k roid in 15-25 minutes Jetti mining would work best.

medium barge. skip the small barge and just go straight for the medium.

Deacon nailed it...the retriever is quite good. BTW you are able to get your hauler through the warp gate? I have also seen ferrox mine very well...you need to rig it with co-processors up the you-know and 1 mining upgrade but yeah it outmines an osprey with any decent skills

50K of Omber is roughly 30.000m¦, or a bit more than a jetcan ...
With my mining Apoc, 8 Modulated Deep Core Miner IIs with T2 Mining Crystals, I get 1040m¦ per minute (calculated, those have a 3 mins cycle). I think that the Covetor can get a bit more than my apoc, something like 1100~1200 m¦ per minute ...
A Retriever (medium barge) cannot pop one of those roids in 15~25 mins, you'll need an Apoc or Covetor for that, and even then it'll take roughly 30 mins per roid ...
The good thing is that those 250K of Omber are worth much more than a Bonus Reward ... but it takes time.
It would take about a month to train for a Covetor, and about 3 weeks for the T2 lasers with T2 crystals ... roughly two weeks for an apoc (Frig 4, Cruiser 4 and BS 2), and the same 3 weeks for the lasers and crystals (Mining 5, Astrogeo 5, Deep Core Mining 2, Refining 5, Refinery Efficiency 3+ and the Processing skills to 3+).
Frankly, keep using your Osprey, it will take more time, but it will save you 3 to 5 weeks of training ...

I mine with both an Osprey and a Retreiver in different situations, personally I think the best bet for you it to keep running the Osprey but if / when you can afford it go up to the Retreiver. ItÆs much faster but I canÆt say for sure youÆll be able to get it through jump gates which is why I keep my Osprey handy.
