So i've found quite a few hidden belts in 0.0 during my exploring and ratting sessions. I've heard rumors that hidden belts don't spawn rats.
So in theory you could rat there without a tank. Is this true? Does anyone have any experience with this?

That was true a long time ago. Not now though, if you found a hidden belt, it will have npc rats... but the nice thing is people cant immeadiately find you unless, they have already scouted it out, or drop probes, etc.

they spawn 
just if not many found them the roids are in better shape and gives abit more time when hostiles warp in

how to search fore hidden belts? is it only with the scanner and probes that is posseble? is there hidden belts in all .0 systems?
or is this answers hard to get??

Wow I seem to keep finding out more and more new things about this game all the time. I knew CCP was considering creating items like hidden complexes, making you have to scan systems and such to find things like they belts.
Maybe off topic, but how would you go about finding these, and yeah I would like to know how common hidden belts are. Is it worth scanning every system. And do hidden belts usually have even better ore?

I used to ninja mine arkonor in deep catch in such a belt 1 or 2 years ago, and I can tell you that rats spawned :)
There is a neat trick however : if the roids are far enough from each others, you can warp from one to the other when the NPCs are spawning on you... you'll see them hanging around the roid you used to be for a few minutes, then warping to your new position. Rinse and repeat until cargo full :p
Maybe a bad idea to use a barge however (cycle is too long)
PS : If you ever reveal I already mined, i'll deny it and put a bounty on your head

I don't know if rats spawn in the offgrid belts or not, but they do quite definitely warp across from the ongrid part (or from another belt).
Advantage of offgrid belts (apart from often being virgin roids) is that the lazy/casual pirate or raider will fly right by. However, one who's taken the trouble to scout out and BM the system, that'd be another matter!

if you can find a belt thats split over 3+ grids (yes they are out there). There was 1 belt in jv1 in teneriffis that was made of 3 interlocking U shaped grids (dont ask how ... thats how it was).
The rats will only usually spawn @ 2 of them. Watch long enough and find which ones. You can afk mine on the 3rd.

It is a long time since I was in an asteroid belt in empire so I might be wrong, but I think you don't get large enough asteroid belts in empire that they will go into another grid.
