I already have one account. I'd like to buy a second one, since one account only lets you train one character at a time, and I'd like to have one fighter and one miner for example. I realize this requires paying a second subscription fee every month, I'm willing to do that.
I just want to know how to do it. I downloaded the game and created the first account. For the second account, do I have to download and install the game into a second directory? Or can I just go to the account page, and choose to create a new account? I guess what I'm asking is do I need separate game installs for the two accounts? or do I just use two login names/passwords and one set of install code?

You can use the Same Client to run both accounts on.
U just need to make another Account with an extra Character the same way u did with the one u have right now.

Check out the buddy program on this site, make a new account. Copy your EVE folder to a new folder and make a shortcut from the .exe file into the desktop and name is EVE-2 or something. You now have 2 icons for EVE, one for each account. Check if you computer can handle running both accounts, if it can you can upgrade that trial account to a full one using your creditcard.

sorry to be dumb, but doesn't this then require two installations of Eve, and therefore twice the HDD space?

it doesnt "require" two installations you can run the application twice, but dont forget that will strain yer files as the same data is being read from the same file twice.
so creating a second installation will save some of that strain even if its only a nominal amount.
personally i run two accounts on two seperate harddrives and i dont have many problems running them both at once (unless i lauch drones with both of them) . in short it can be done off one installation but its worth doing a second installation.

i have two PC's but it's not as easy as having two instances running on the same PC :P
