I've managed to get Eve working in linux using Cedega but my only problem is that I get horribly low fps. About half of what I get under windows, does anyone else here use Cedega as well and have some advice?
I asked on the transgaming forums but they take a while to reply( as opposed to here...).
Here are my specs if that helps any:
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3400+ GeForce 7800 GS/AGP/SSE2 Audigy 4 1gig ram Ubuntu 6.06 64bit version.

as this is the place we nix'ers hang out and help each other gettin' stuff going.
In that thread, the last 4-5 pages are the most current and have helpful info regarding cedega setups and how to improve fps and such. ----- ------------

Ofcourse using windows isn't a solution. Using windows to play eve removes this problem from the equasion, if there's no problem, there's no need for a solution.
Technically, using Cedega to play Eve on a linux box is a workaround for the problem that you can't play Eve on linux. Because you know, well, er, the game is coded to run on windows platforms.
I have no problem with people trying to run Eve on linux, in fact I'd love it if CCP came out with a linux client. I do have a problem with the mentality that if it isn't linux, it must be crap.

In other news, the solution to a fire in your house is to go to the house across the street, because that one isn't burning.

That's what you get when you move into a burning house.

A house isn't burning when you move into it... just like EVE has in the past worked quite well with Cedega. Every patch makes it worse

He was ASKING for support. EVE is a great community...until the platform you wish to use to PLAY EVE is brought up...then it seems like all bets/r/off and someone is trying to kill someone's cat or something. ----- ------------

Do you have all the correct drivers for your hardwae installed? I dont know much about EVE on cedega but i think it might have something to do with the fact that Cedega only supports older DirectX versions, and EVE requires new DirectX. Im pretty sure however that EVE doesnt run in opengl so check your not running it in opengl.

Edited by: Dark Shikari on 19/07/2006 10:42:49 Do you have the latest version of the nvidia drivers (sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx) and the nvidia kernel modules? A lack of video drivers could be holding up your frame rate.

It would be if it was to be use as an example to using Linux and trying to install and use Windows software. It's obvious before you install Linux your going to get compatibility problems. The equivalent of moving into a burning house when you have a nice one across the road thats not burning.
And the nice one across the road charges you a thousand dollars a night to sleep there, and is made of paper and could fall down at any moment.

He asked for a solution and I provided one. Why does everyone have to be a fanboi for taking an easier and therefore preferred option?

Ah bull****. You Linux 'fanbois' are all the same.
You Windows fanboys are all the same:
1. Anyone who disagrees with you is a "linux fanboy", even if they installed Linux for the first time two weeks ago.
2. Windows is awesome. Regardless of its unreliability and the massive number of unpatched vulnerabilities, its still awesome. Its "normal" for an OS to be that insecure, and Linux is "actually worse" even though there is no evidence to support such a claim.
3. You flame anyone who posts anything about Linux, even if all they need is help on a particular issue, and don't care about your stupid Windows propaganda.
So-called "linux fanboys" never create Linux-Windows flamewars: its people like you who do, by spamming about how "ZOMG USE WINDOWS" in every thread about Linux, even if the original post has nothing to do with Windows.

1. Not true. I personally don't use that kind of language and took it from the first Linux zealot who posted on this thread. Which was followed by a 2. I never said Windows was awesome. Your putting words in my mouth. 3. It wasn't a flame or propogana but a tongue in cheek 'solution'. I didn't realise everyone was so fanatically religious about Linux.
Your the one spouting anti-Windows comments. Your the one with the issue. Chill out a bit. I really couldn't care less about Windows zealot v Linux zealot wars. Though I never met a Windows zealot in my life.
PS sorry for being off-topic but this all escelated from a silly tongue in cheek remark.
