Gutter Press reporting from Palas, where the sensational posthumous trial of infamous capsuleer Nauplius has just concluded.
As has been widely reported on the IGS in recent days, the heretic Nauplius was accused of a number of gross crimes, chiefly heresy, but also murder, blasphemy, sacrilege and treason.
Leading the accusations was Duchess Odelya d'Hanguest, at whose palace the trial took place. Surprising many fashion commentators who had expected an ornate gown, the Duchess chose the uniform of a State Protectorate Brigadier General for the occasion.
In a highly charged trial, Duchess d'Hanguest repeatedly denounced Nauplius and his actions, at one point asking the corpse "What do you say to all this?", before exclaiming "You may stay silent! But this silence will only be construed as a sign of your guilt!"
Several other participants in the trial also made accusations, including the murder of one million slaves, a crime to which Nauplius had confessed on the IGS.
WIth none chosing to speak in defence of Nauplius, colourfully described as a "Heinous tergiversator and despicable heretic" by the Duchess, the accused was found guilty, and was sentenced to be stoned and burnt, as an example to all.
The assembled participants then cast stones at the accused corpse, before it was removed, to be transported to the Palas star, where it was incinerated by weapons fire, without any further ritual or ceremony.
Most sharply dressed person at the trial, was Steffanie Saissore of Stormcrows, wearing a custom gown, made by a Luminaire seamstress.

If you're going to make a mockery of civilized institutions like law, courts and such you might as well go full out and do it while mocking your allies, yes? Good grief this is silly.

I'm not sure how to feel about this "trial". My Gallentean upbringing makes me abhor this as nothing more than a sham and a pretext to find the accused guilty before carrying out the predetermined verdict and sentence. My practical side sees it as pointless as the capsuleer in his current clone is still very much alive and free to carry on committing atrocities.
However, the part of me that appreciates dark humor and satire applauds this news. Good job Pilot d'Hanguest. When the world is running down, you make the best of what's still around. |

To be fair he resisted arrest. Most people killed by "law enforcement" don't receive a trial. By Amarrian standards this is very progressive justice. Watch Fred Fred Frederation and stop cryptozoologist! Fight against the brutal genocide of fictional creatures across New Eden! Is that a metaphor? Probably not, but the fru-fru- people will sure love it! |

Didn't you want the body to be burned?
I for one appreciated the event for its intended purpose: an opportunity to take out your anger on a monster for their crimes against humanity, in a manner in which they can offer no resistance. Detractors ignore that the point of such a sham trial is catharsis for those still alive to be angry at the criminal's previous deeds.
It is only a shame that another cloned copy is still at large and still committing atrocities. |

If you're going to take your anger out on a monster, there are better simulations out there that'd be quite a bit more satisfying than an empty slab of biomass that frankly haven't done anything once the previous owner vacated the premises. Yes, it should've been burned in space as an offering to the angry and vengeful spirits that he sent to the afterworld before their time. This show trail offers no succour to them.

As a Khanid I feel nothing but friendship towards our allies in the State; as a holder I often wear uniforms of friendly foreign powers. I wouldnGÇÖt know whatGÇÖs the fuss all about. I believe sociologists and historians have traced the origins of this practice long time ago and maintain it functions as a semiotic resource of symbolising rational and assiduous duties to the realm the holder rules.
That said let us not forget what the ceremony was also about: Honouring Topoteretai Sun and Kopenhagen for their deeds against evil.
Let us pray and act that for the tergiversator and his kin time will become a measure of pain. Now, and always, and to the ages of ages.

Why would I ever feel vindication? It's meat. It's dead. It has exactly zero capacity for anything but being dead. It no longer has even the most tenuous of links to the original perpetrator. The guy has left the building and couldn't return to it if he wanted to. Burning the building down will not affect him nor will beating the steak affect the dead cow.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have an Amarrian priest getup I need to wear while I perform a blessing upon the manufactorums in the name of the one true god, Mr Screwdriver. I will express surprise and puzzlement if this is not considered a friendly and wholesome gesture of respect to our allies and their customs.

"Without any further ritual or ceremony" the report says. So it was not made as an offering to wrestless spirits. This is not satisfactory.

Given our capacity to go through corpses at a prodigious rate, I'd say there's a market that's not being exploited very well. The price of a clone with a 20% mark-up after ammunition cost, divided up on various squidgy bits and bones? "I can't believe it's not Egger"tm could do great business for a while.
