The Ishkur is very popular for this, although the Harpy and Enyo are excellent too. ------------------ Originally by: kieron Buy ISK for RL cash here!

Bearing in mind the rework on the minmatar AFs i would still point the Ishkur as the most promising ship i have flown. However it requires a bit more skills imho considering at least drone interfacing 4 and combat drone operations 4.

You can check the Crime & Punishment forum actually, i have a nice thread there with some statistics... not much, but a little. It includes all ships though.
Think it would be better in this channel actually. Going to request a move.

Edited by: Talon Calais on 24/07/2006 03:40:20 Ishkur solo:
2x ion 2x nos
AB web scram
SAR II exp hardener mag stab II
Drones: Mixed damage types T2 3x med, 2x light
Enyo Gang, this fits with AWU 4, hits for 100 per shot with higher skills.
4x Neutron II w/AM 1x Rocket launcher w/Phalanx or Thorn (if you have good missile skills the dps boost is acceptable)
AB web/scram/cap recharger if you're not tackling
SAR II 3x Mag Stab II
1x T2 Light drone damage type that your launcher has.

Jag is fairly mean. There's a polethra of fits that work fairly well on it. Sadly, they're all close range...not sure arty would ever work on 1v1 frigateering. ---------------------------------------- Friends Forever

Jaguar is overrated as a solo platform. Useless optimal bonus for AC. And as with all AF, missing real bonus of "pre-applied resists."
Don't fool yourself, you cannot run around killing ratting BS with this ship unless the guy is an idiot and won't have backup for 10 minutes. It's still a frigate, with frigate limitations - weak firepower, easily jammed, easily droned, easily nossed. You might kill an ill-fitted cruiser or an interceptor that won't run, but even that is not guaranteed.
I 1v1 against a Taranis and I popped when he was in 20% structure. With two extenders, I don't think I hit him enough as he was orbiting me at ridiculous speeds and a ridiculous distance of ~300m. With one extender, I would have been dead far earlier in the game.
AF excel at NPCing and anti-support. As long as the Jaguar has the ******* stupid optimal bonus and as long as AF have no real 4th bonus they are otherwise inherently gimped.

The Retribution is great when paired with a maladiction or other long range inty.
On it's own though it does tend to suffer "I have you n.... oh you warped off. Pants!" syndrome.

At the moment these are my top 3, Jaguar > Harpy > Ishkur. I would start with the harpy in your footsteps, it has great tank ability and nice dmg output plus some versatility setup-wise although it lacks speed compared to other AF¦s. I¦m not sure others would agree but although you can fit 150mm rails I choose the 125mm because of better tracking and less fitting requirements.

When you're having problems with stab monkeys it's fun to hop in a retri and them to death.

Imo all the assault ships are a bit slow(exception = jag) to use close range weapons. I would def go with the ishkur and some rails. Just try to stay out of harms way with it, if you are in a gang, let cruisers web and you can fit some ecm.

Enyo works great and doesn't require too much skilling.
One of my setups:
x4 t2 125mm w/Antimatter or Spike x1 slot empty(no AWU yet) Mwd, Scrambler t2 Magstab, t2 SAR, t2 Adaptive nano plating, exp hardener/cpr.
t2 125mm's hardly miss and easily hitts for 60-90 without too much gunnery skills.

/Signed....
2 extenders is too much ... too big sig radius for a frig.
Mwd Mshield Ext.II web 7.5k or ABII Mshield Ext.II web 20k (not tested this but should work for bs tackling)
Also a Arty wolf + 2 webs = DEAD ceptors and most close range Afs. U just have to keep the Afs above 4-5k range... for the ceptors u let them come full speed and then when they turn to aproach u again with low speed u stop em(2 webs) and they are dead. no time to warp out no time to kill u. if they kill the mwd before they reach u ... stop them in the first pass either way they are dead.
For topic.. Ishkur if uhave maxed drone skills else Jaguar. Jagabond is sweet nowdays

the Ishkur is the clear winner nos, takle and let drones do the work.
Now that the Vengance has lost its range Bonus its useless was alot better as a beam laser sniper even if beams have crazy fittings, at least there used to be one ship they were worth while fiting on.

The new vengence bonus is still to weak, needs to be 10% per level, after all its three guns. Its DPS is still low compared to all other assault frigs... If only it was 10% per level, people might start fearing it.

today I took a rail enyo into structure in my passive jagabond.
...too bad that that damned manticore was there too. I would've killed that enyo =|. instead I limped away and disengaged the enyo cuz they managed to break my 1800 shields with 65% avg resists jaguar =( -------

I owned an Enyo in my Ishkur. He barely took me into armor and I hadn't even initiated my repairer yet.
Ishkur - 3x 125mm Railgun II (Antimatter S) 1x Small 'Diminishing' Power System Drain 1x 1MN Afterburner II 1x Fleeting Propulsion Inhibitor 1x Faint Epsilon Warp Prohibitor 1x Small Armor Repairer II 1x Energized Reactive Membrane II 1x Capacitor Power Relay I 2x T2 Medium Drones 3x T2 Light Drones
I've soloed against a battlecruiser. Unfortunately once he noticed he was losing he warped off as he had stabs.

Actually, Jag is pretty serious with 250's and 280 II's arties. I have had good success in 1v1 senerios. I had the same though thinking the AC was better but I have about the same win to loss ratio( mostly win AF vs AF, Jag is just plain nasty now ). If you have specialization to at least 4 and surgical strike 5 you can easily volly a ceptor with quake, if not put it to like 15% armor. Against other assult frigs one good hit and they tend to run from the 280 II's thinking this guy hits insane but not realizing how long its gonna be before another shot is fired.

Vengence has a reasonable tank, but being able to web + scram + tank means nothing when its damage is naff and its very slow. It also has cap issues with a 20km scram and/or a mwd.
