I wanted to get into a mmorpg before vanguard, age of conan, and warhammer came out. I enjoy playing games with thousands of people on servers. So after i get it downloaded installed, its a little confusing at the beggining all this stuff i have to set up, and click on. So i was starting to figure it out and get the ball rolling. Then all of a sudden "restart in 9 minutes, see you back in game in 30 minutes, thank you!"
And im like uhggg great, my first 5 minutes in the game, and i allready get informed of server problems, is that what i should expect out of this game. It was not a good first impression at all.

EVE has more stable servers than any other MMORPG I've ever played. Unscheduled downtimes are once or twice a month at most, and usually short. Sometimes they're crashes, but in this case you should read the sticky before whining about it. Almost always, when there's a problem, CCP tells us exactly whats wrong and how long it'll take to fix it.

I wasnt whining smartass. I just wanted to know as a FIRST TIMER TO THE "FRACKING" game, is this what i should expect. I have no other prior knowledge of this game, and admistration. SO the only way to know is to ask. You must be one of those hatefully forum posters that no one wants you to post in their thread.

Well, there are many new players every day. Some of them will end up on a day with server problems. Today, thats you.

Nah, with the exception of major expansions/updates, it's pretty rare for the cluster to be borked as a whole. There are occasional lag issues like any MMO but stuff like this isn't very common at all in the year or so I have been playing. Welcome aboard btw, sorry to hear your 1st stab at EvE got cut short

Like the others said, its not very common that the server goes down unscheduled. However, there is a scheduled downtime every day from 11:00 - 12:00 eve time.

Do i get to land on a planet and start to kill level 1's that drop loot and yield experience? Im so curious now, damn restarts lol

Actually, I'm quite known throughout the community for my useful posts.
However, you complained about "server problems." If you had read the sticky, you would have know there were no "server problems" and that the downtime was entirely intentional.
I did answer your question, by telling you that EVE is, in fact, quite stable and that unscheduled downtimes are rare. No need to be defensive!

You were just unlucky :) In a few months of playing I haven't seen other unscheduled downtime. Maybe I missed it being a casual player, but this is the first time I have not been able to connect when I wanted to, other than the daily maintenance.
Even the daily maintenance is well placed. it's at lunchtime for western europe, more or less, so it makes sure you dont keep putting off you lunch to play Eve :)
I'd sick around and have some fun, its not usually like this :)

several points from a relatively new person (about a month in)...
1. this server problem seems very rare. servers are down for 45-hour every day, and that's usually about it with the occasional extended time (ive seen 1 besides this).
2. I've played many MMOs and frankly... Eve can be rather harsh for new people. It can feel overwhelming and very boring, initially. Even 14 days in you wont even scratch the surface enough to get at the real juicy meat of eve, so approach the Trial with this understanding in mind.
3. Connect with people. PvP and corp life is about people and group work, as is the case with all MMOs. You can certainly solo and ninja in this game if you want, but in the trial you are likely to be grinding missions and perhaps doing a little mining. Either way, you'll find yourself purely grinding... alone. I would not have likely stuck it out if not for knowing other games who could explain what it is REALLY like once you break from the initial newbie grind.
4. Use these forums. BM .eve-search.com then get evemon and quickfit. Find the awesome resources. Ask questions. Watch some of the high quality pvp vids, too.
Ф Blood Eagle is a state of mind...
