I was wondering the other day, why in EVE do the indys have so much damm cpu, theres nothing they can fit that uses anything near there CPU total. Were the devs going to make use of the CPU with some kinda of indy only mod, and changed there minds. Peoples thoughts on this ..?

From what I know, industrials were in the beginning of EVE not only meant to be transporters, but should be able to fit "spezial" modules for industrial operations (A mobile refinery module was in discussion for a long time). Seems to be left over from long ago.

cause they need to use cpu intensive modules such as WCS and mining lasers. Mind control and tin hats |

No.
The reason is that back before CCP released conquerable stations, they were contemplating releasing mobile refineries for industrials which would require that amount of CPU. There's even a mobile refinery operation (rank 4, mem/int, refining IV and industry IV) skillbook hidden away in the database.

Actually I think the reason would be so you can equip a scan probe luancher to scan moons and a cloak device so you can hide while you wait for the results, If you get good results you could then deploy the control tower and the hangar that you have with you and go back and get the fuel and a turret to get the defences going. I am not sure but this would be my best guess. ![Wink](/images/icon_wink.gif)

I'm gonna side with Ripper on why it was kept more recently, and with the oldbies for why it was kept orginally.
I'm going to go with alcoholism for why it made it betwen the stages.
And then I'm going to request more utility slots for indies to round it off.
