So I keep reading that if your standings drop below this number, agents won't talk to you. Aside from the connections skill, is there any way to circumvent this? I'm almost at -2.00 with Sansha's nation, but I would like to start missioning for them here in the semi-near future.

apart from knocking back amarr storylines (actually failing them) dont think so i personally think every single faction should have even an agent u can talk to if youre standings are fully maxed out in a negative way (ie even if youre -10) u can work for one particular or 2 particular lowest level agents that will allow u to redeem youreself regardless (maybe attacking those NPC haulers is an option in high sec to)

When you drop to negative standings the connections skill has no effect. You need the Diplomacy skill to raise a negative.

Once you drop below -2.0 with maximum diplomacy skill, you have two options:
1. Find another faction, that is liked by the faction you want to work for. The storyline missions will raise your faction standings for both factions.
2. Find another faction, that is disliked by the faction you want to work for. Do missions for them successfully. Then when they offer you a storyline mission, accept it and then tell the agent that you cannot do the mission. This will raise your faction standing with the faction you want to work for. It will also lower your faction standing with the faction that gave you the mission.
When you drop below -2.0 for corporation standing I do not think that you have any options. That corporation will never give you another mission.
