Hi,
How can I log out and be returned to the character choice screen, and not ejected on the Windows desktop? I don't mind if the log out is not safe, i.e the ship remains in space, I just want to return to the character choice screen  |

You can't, as far as I know, log out to the character screen.
Many have asked for that feature over the years, but as far a I'm aware it has not been implemented.

A lot of work for one dev? Lets admit that. But it saves 10 seconds per user, time the number of users who just want to log to this screen. When many customers ask for the same thing, it might be sane to keep an open mind. |

It's more that there's major team effort from different departments of devs to get this to work because the back end server hasn't really be able to keep a account state together between characters or something like that.
At the same time the client needs to change to allow for going back to character select. The client change is probably easier, the server back end change, not so much. Has a lot of potential for breaking things.
In regards to the OP the devs HAVE met us halfway on this request. Go into the settings of your launcher and turn off closing the launcher on game startup. The launcher will remain open and in the event of a socket close or wanting to change characters you just close the client, it PLAY again and you're right back in.
