Edited by: Kybane Atreides on 20/07/2006 23:49:54 I'm not sure if this has already been posted or not. It is hard for me to make up my mind. I'm leaning towards Wolf, but I hate not being able to web...

Jaguar. Wolf is better with howitzers (despite the backwards bonus) and in a group.

Edited by: Karistis on 20/07/2006 23:59:16 This is kind of an opinion question, so the answer you're about to get is rather an opinion as well (since I usually don't fly Minmatar and haven't pirated for several months now). :)
For me, webbing was pretty essential for belt piracy unless my ship was fast enough (like a Rifter or Merlin) to fly circles around my target. Assault frigs generally can't go as fast as normal frigs, and if you can make them go that fast, the modules you use in those slots to increase speed may detract from your ability to deal damage, which is what the Wolf and Jaguar are designed to do. So, basically, if you can't make yourself go faster, make your opponent go slower, so you'll probably need a webber.
However, I have known people in the past who have excelled with both ships, so you may want to ask a specialist, rather than an idiot like me! :) _________________________________________ 2005.01.17 22:04:22 combat Chackle [PUSY] perfectly runs from you, wrecking for 1500 cowardice. |

I'm a little confused since I'm away from home/game. The item DB says jag has 3 mids, but QuickFit says it has 4...Any help on this? 4 makes more sense ------------------------ Malum Vir Pirate Corporation Recruitment |

It has 4 midslots... was recently upgraded from 3, guess CCP missed that on the website.

How would you guys suggest fitting one? I know this isn't the place, but I figured it would be better than starting a new forum...Also almost everyone of the fittings in the forums are for 3 mid-slots. I was also told you armor tank a Jag, but all of the ones on forums just use a Shield Extender...Any help would be appreciated. ------------------------ Malum Vir Pirate Corporation Recruitment |

No. If youre using a Jag, use shield extenders...

I don't like the idea that if I get jumped I don't have any defenses though... One more question, are the resists on the ship with frig 5 bonus put in or no? ------------------------ Malum Vir Pirate Corporation Recruitment |

Edited by: OrangeAfroMan on 21/07/2006 08:41:08 I'm not going to reveal my Jag setup but use extenders and MWD and 150mms. The rest is a secret
Also mind you that the Wolf is amazing for popping inties and other frigs, especially in gangs.

this is purely IMO, but for PvE....
Wolf + Arty's = nice alpha strike, good when you don't need much of an active tank (i.e. aginst laser based NPC's), difficult to fit well
Jag + 280mm Arty's = good alpha strike, lowish DPS, faster, Again, difficult to fit well
Jag + 250mm Arty's + Std Launcher = more DPS than 280's but lower alpha, much more fitting options.
I'm flying the latter of these and I can quite comfortably handle almost any NPC spawn you can throw against me, but BS take a while to kill (if you can get past the tank)
Jag ftw Vicarrah Tahiri |

Edited by: Phelan Boots on 21/07/2006 12:50:20 I had no problems using a Jaguar without a webber. The setup I like to spam whenever something like this gets posted, is:
High: 3x 150mm AC IIs 1x Small Nos
Mid: 1x MWD II 1x Medium Shield Extender II 1x Kinetic Shield Hardener II 1x Warp Scrambler
Low: 1x MAPC 1x Gyro II 1x Shield Power Relay
Really the last two low slots are really up to the pilot, also some people like to swith out the kinetic hardener for a 2nd Medium Shield Extender, usually named as they fit better.

Solo: Jag, because it is immune to nos.
Gang-Gankage: Wolf with 4x 280mm t2 Artys

The numbers on the site do reflect the frig 5 bonus. So when you get into one with frig 5, assault frig 1, the resists are the 75/60/40/60 (for shield), no additional bonuses. (i.e., no near-perfect immunity to thermal/em ) |

AC Jag with 2x T2 Med Shield Extender FTW! I haven't tried one out yet since I sold mine at 100% markup. I'm gonna wait for the prices to drop a bit then buy another for screwing around in low-sec. The passive tank on that thing is sick! _____________________

Actually, Jag base speed is 30 m/s faster. And the Jag is lighter in mass.

Thanks for pointing that out, for some reason I was thinking about the Claw speed which is the ship I use for fast travel with 4 named overdrives

More recently, Im leaning back to the wolf for its extra gun... To my surprise I found it to be a better mission runner!!!
I always fit autos, if I need small artillery I use a destroyer, I also decided on fitting a tracking computer over a webber... Webbers are great but the thing is that I've never had a problem hitting anything in range...
My favourite wolf fit is a toy for easier lvl 3 missions:-
autos and rkt launcher AB and tracking comp sar, gyrostab, nanofibre, plate
Its a thing of grace and beauty besides power. Its fast and the t2 autos hit well out to over 10k... (When things get tough fit small cap battery and armour hardeners)
For fun in the Jag:-
autos and rockets AB, med shield extender, tracking comp, ew gizmo gyrostab, PDU, nano
(When things get tough fit shield boost and shield hardeners)
Get both ships!!!
The price of Freedom is eternal vigilance... |
