Originally by: Scoundrelus I can totally understand podding people, but the mentality behind it is what I don't understand. It's always like:
"He destroyed your ship"
then its
"OMG HE PODDED YOU"
Podding is look at as such a big deal. Some guy once blew up my Maller then podded me, and ever since he's been bragging about the pod rather then the ship. The ship made me lose 5 mil (if that) where as the pod made me lose a whopping 2 mil. Yes I know implants are worth alot but you don't know if someone HAS implants or not so that eliminates that as a bragging right.
I don't get it.
It can be extremely hard to catch a pod wihtout a frig...

Originally by: Tjarish well accually its exstreamly lame.. podding is descriped as the worse thing in the universe, so to pod some one without a bounty on theyre head should resolve in a instant agro from all concord (ships and gate turrets) untill one kill and the cost of lets say your skill point *10 (for one with 10mill it would cost 100mil if concord ever gets you).
this would make the podding what it SHOULD be, RARE!!!!
and it would make people come to low sec alot more and exspecially to 0.0 zones (wich pirates are complaining about "no one is in 0-0 rabble rabble rabble etc".) --------------------
and just a note... what ******* idiot of a dev got the idear that a battle ship should be able to tank the sentry gate guns with the right setup?! ? and outrange them as well with the right setup?!? i mean seriusly, concord are known to have the second best technologi in the wold (right after joves), so it is ******* lame that a sentry gun (A GAINT GUN THAT ARE TO MASSIVE IN FIREPOWER TO MOVE!!) can be out damaged, out range, and tanked by a player battleship... then what the **** is the point with them?! let them shot with bananas instead then and do 0.0000000000000001 dps instead... its just so lame... you should try to follow the story.. futher more concord should be able to come to the aid of a person that is attacked beside a gate (becouse it would be so fast for them to warp away) AND it would remove gate champers WICH EVERY ONE EVEN THEMSELFE can see is game-destroying.
but well maybe its just me playing to have a role-playing game-creating game instead of a stats-whoring cooki cutter build (GO BLASTERTHRON AND NOSFERATU DOMINIC... talk about finding the holes in the game and misusing them;) )
Yes, im gonna reply to this message ...
The way eve works, is that everything(almost) ingame is PLAYER BUILT... for those players to actually make money on building this stuff, you need buyers to come back, and this is possible by making them risk their ships and LOOSE them. Might not be fun for the players who can't protect themselves enough, or don't look for the obvious signs of possibly getting ganked, but because of the thing you hate, you most likely make money(If you can't pvp you sell stuff, and to sell you need pvp, right? nto if you do missions but you can do them in empire). Reducing pvp too much would end in a totally screwed up financial system in eve. You'd basically end up with an industrial game were people quit after 4 months because its the same routine over and over again.

OOOOHHHH I am so happy my humble little post has caused such discusion. But it does seem that most Podding is done just for spite with no profit or purpose other than the lowly reason of "joy of the kill". This is too bad. Well I hope those that pod kill get all thier frustrastion out in this game and not in RL. Enjoy all and Good Hunting!!!

That's both profit and purpose. And it's enough of one I guess.
But if you re-read my post you'll see some ways that podding is advantageous, along with some other posts which are very informative.

Ok here are the reasons for podding, all perfectly valid.
- Get rid of the person in local.
This serves two purposes. First you rid your self of most of the annoying childesh smack that many like to do after they have died. As well, if you get rid of him quickyl enough, there's no one screaming OMG pirate to anyone who's listening.
- Economic damage.
Ok not everyone has implants, but a large number of them do. But clones cost isk as well, a fairly large ammount of isk for some players.
- Get them out of the area.
If you fighting in 0.0, chances are your victum doesn't have a clone there, most people don't. So by podding them, it could be hours, or days before they are able to make the trip back. D2 used this fighting goon's in branch. Pod them, and they often ended up in syndicate, 40 jumps away.
Now we havn't talked about the proper way to pod someone. If your able, podding someone should be done with some style.
I like the old, just hold them, and make them wait. Go through thier loot, make comments about thier set up, and what they should have done differantly.
Or ransom them. Not a cheesy, give me isk and you live ransom. But get them to write a story or something. Make it a funny story, with a time limt. Such as, "If you want to live, you need to write me a story about a fight between a frog, and a duck. And the duck must win, you have 2 minutes. Go!"
Of course if they manage to do it, then let them go. But the stories some people come up with are priceless.

ROFL @ at the "story" idea - definitely gonna try that one! We've had people come onto Vent and sing before (remembering the classic "Mary Had a Little Lamb" incident).
I hold pods to ransom because of the potential implant cost, but I usually get a stream of abuse in the PM which just makes we want to pop someone all the more. If they pay, they escape, simple as that.
Plus, I'm a cannibal and the corpses taste reeeal nice with some ketchup

let me explain this one. most pirates feel so badly about destroying a ship (some even get emotional on teamspeak) that in order to feel better for what they, the pirates just did, they pod you to help you back to your home station as fast as possible, even they can see through the......tears.... that to offset your travel costs expedicious travel is always needed in times like that.
