(I tried to reply to the original topic but the Reply button is gone (?)
Please help me to understand why spending money on Eve TV is going to help maintain and improve the core of the game?
This is not a rant, this is a legitamate criticism of how resources are used. "PS: The proper people are working on issues that are relevant to their role."
So you're telling me that resources are not being taken away from maintaining the game core? They sure are! Money is money.
"Update: This just in from Urban Mongral. We have maxed out our current number of viewers at 2800, so we have added another sever up to 4500 viewers, can people reconnect to http://69.1.85.10/wcix2 to help us with load balancing."
"What are you? Stupid? Missing a skill change?
"EvE TV is the best thing that has happened to the game for a while and you complain about it? You want the EVE-radio guys to fix the server perhaps?"
Are YOU Stupid? What does Eve Tv have to do with the game? I'm in a fleet battle, on TS comm, and then, OH, hey everyone, did you see what's on Eve TV?.
-OR- Hey, dude, I found this awesome space combat game, and the one of the best things about it is that you don't even have to play the game, you can just watch Eve TV and and do IRC.
My constructive critique session is OVER. Word OUT.
cheers.....

I was watching EVE TV at work yesterday. Many people who had never seen EVE before got a chance to watch a match or two. Maybe they'll be paying customers someday - but everyone thought it was cool.
Advertising isn't just something you put on a billboard.

Edited by: James McGowen on 22/07/2006 17:27:11 Are you aware of what eve-tv actually is - coverage of the alliance tournament?
Edit: Hint- you need the servers up to have the tournament...

Edited by: Antodias on 22/07/2006 17:28:06 Yeah it doesn't really help the game apart from advertising, but it's fun to watch.
Do you know what their resources are or how they should be managed? No? Goodie.
Personally I think the forums are more of drain.

Edited by: Crumplecorn on 22/07/2006 17:29:14 I agree. Let's take down everything outside the game. Bye bye Eve-TV, EON, these forums, let's just put all this into the group term 'community'. Let's nerf Eve's community, that can surely only benefit the game.
You are the sort of person who looks at the space shuttle and says how that money could be put to better use down here on Earth. ----------

They are pushing boundaries, trying things that no MMO company has EVER done before. How does that help the game? Publicity, new tech, word-of-mouth.
EVE is still the crazy guys pushing the envelope, trying new things. Frankly, if they didn't do crazy crap like EVE-TV this wouldn't be half the company it is.
Doesn't take a lot of talent to follow the beaten path after all.

EVE TV's earned CCP at least an article on Slashdot, and probably a lot more publicity than that in the long run. Plus it's good fun, it's something that's not been tried before. It pushes the boundaries, and that's what EVE's been about since it started.
It's not taking that much away from the core of EVE anyway, a couple servers, some bandwidth costs and a little time for interviews. That's about it. Everything else is being run by the EVE Radio team which have nothing to do with CCP.

yes, thats what it is.
Without things such as eve-tv, I would probably not be a paying customer. I mean that in a broader sense, such as without the dev interaction and unique activities such as eve-tv, I would probably not be paying. As well as being interesting to watch, it brings new players into eve.
eve-tv made it to slashdot.com, I expect that article alone brought in at least 50 trials and 25 paying members to the game, if you don't like eve-tv, at least be assured that it is paying for itself, this has never been done before, and is good advertising for eve.

To start with you are not paying taxes. You are a customer. They are a business they do not have to tell you where THEIR resources are being used. They can buy beer with all the profits and you are not in a position to question where resources are being used.
Yesterday at work a guy said "Damn I got to download that tonight" after watching Stain/MC fight.

I stand corrected. Thanks everyone!

Damn, I want to work for THAT company!!
Seriously though, Eve-TV is a great thing for the game - even though I haven't watched it as much as I would have liked. Most of the resources involved in it are from Eve-Radio, as is the staffing; whom are all volunteers and I think deserve our thanks for putting in the time and effort to do this.
As what it adds to the game - it adds to the community of course! I'm sure all of us have had scrapes with at least a couple of the Alliances involved in the tournments, and have our favourites and ones we'd like to see vapourised! The idea of a tourny that you only ever see a news report about seems a little empty to me - Eve-TV gives it a new purpose.
