What would happen if EvE insurance worked more like it does in the real world?
It seems odd that the most recidivist pirate can still get an insurance payout on his/her ship even if they are the ones who initiated combat but still happened to lose.
Maybe the staggered security response is enough of a disadvantage to those who choose to be pirates, but I think it would be more in keeping with the ethos of the game world if low sec players were unable to insure their ships.

It's a bit harsh not letting low sec pilots insure their ships. What should be implemented is that is you instigate the combat and lose your ship, you don't get a payout. Same should apply if you are taken out by Concord for committing an illegal act.

Umpty-ump umptillion people would whine, moan and complain, until it got changed to a system like we have now.
Umpty-ump umptillion people DID whine, moan and complain, which is why we HAVE a system like we have now. ________________________________________________

well a few other suggestions ahve been made (esp no payout if u committ an act in high sec that attracts concord) ie unsanctioned combat esp relating to suicide gankers with expensive loot in haulers.
Low sec should remain - 0.0 should remain and war decs should remain.

Should be a sliding scale. The worse your security rating the more u pay. Like the RL. the worse your driving record the more you pay.

While the amount of whining if this were implented would be both epic and hilarious this won't do much good. Sec status is often not a good indicator if someone's been a good boy, more whether they make their money in 0.0 or not. Making insurance payout dependant on it will just add a boring grind to get it up again everytime you pod someone in lowsec.
Insurance as it is now encourages PvP, with half decent income you can get the money to buy tech 1 ships faster than you can lose them. If every ship loss became a matter of grinding days to get it back everyone would be overly careful and you'd need covops 24/7 to get any PvP at all.
