hello, Drone sharpshooting skill adds 5% to drone optimal range, I can see that this skill is GOOD for sentry drones as they are all about range being good for sniping etc, but what about regular combat drones? does this skill mean the drones will orbit at a further away distance from thier target? can anyone confirm this and tell me about any negative impact taking this skill to 5 might have on my large, medium or light combat drones... Also does this affect maintenance drones in any way? thanks.

I can't confirm this, but as a fellow drone user I hope it's the case, I assume it means it will allow the regular drones to start firing on their target sooner (ie great distance) and maintain their firing even if the target tries to pull away. Where as if their optimal firing distance was lesser they would no longer hit.

Logically, of course this being Eve that could be the main error with this post , if you have 5% extra to drone optimal range they would orbit at 5% further away. This would reduce the transversal velocity of the target thereby increasing the chance to hit. Of course this means that the drones are easier to hit as well but you can't have everything
This is my own ramblings on the subject and don't know how to confirm the orbit distance unless test it on a corp mate.

This seems to be the case. From everyone I've talked to, as well as my own experience, it seems that your drone's hit percentage drops noticably if your skill in Drone Navigation is higher than your skill in Drone Sharpshooting.

My experience indicates this guy ^^^ is probabaly right. Too bad CCP/Mods don't comment on the whole drone navigation being broken thing lately. I have Drone Sharpshooting up to a decent level and tbh, my heavies hit NPC inties better than anything else. I chalk that up to being able to lay far enough back to reduce transversal.

Basically drone navigation skill should be changed to just be intercept speed (not orbit speed), or it should also increase the tracking speed at an equal amount to offset the penalty for added speed.
