I know there is tons of footage but it'd be nice to have a multi-disc release instead of just trying to cram the 'important' battles onto one disc. Some amazing battles from earlier in the tournament, especially the first two days, will get left out then :\

Yeah, if the matches could be divided out for selective watching too, that would be nice. Not sure how much work that would entail though, so it may not be feasible.
Great job with it, and I will certainly buy the entire thing on DVD...
I figure if the Matrix Trilogy Collectors Edition had more than 45 hours of "extra" stuff in addition to the 3 movies, it couldn't be too hard to throw all 6 days into a DVD pack....
Then again, I may be wrong.

How about being able to pick a team from a menu, and it then plays all the matches for that team in order? (Subject to the included footage, obviously).

Unlikely if they are trying to flog DVDs. Personally, I'd like them to compress the high quality video (so it works out as about 1.3gb for 2hours: fairly standard decent quality internet video) with divX or something similar. Put a couple of the CCP servers seeding/tracking and spread it via bittorrent (to save bandwidth)

Are you going to be contacting alliances involved to get interviews and so forth for the "alliance features"? You could have commentary from the pilots involved as an option instead of the DJ's commentary. Though that would still be really boring for the final match (I imagine that the bob comments would just be Kayo talking about catgirls for 35 minutes).
Though I fully expect that when I get the DVD there'll be a Morsus Mihi "Special feature" that shows a LARP or Star Trek convention or something.

I loved EveTv ... all of it. Personally I'm not interested in a synopsis DVD of just the last day. Sorry, if its not a multi disc with the overwhelming majority of battles... I won't be purchasing.
I'm hoping you'll release a 'single disc' and a 'multi-disc' set though, for those that are interested in a synopsis and those of us that are not. *Fingers crossed*

Hmm, the vid feed was about 1G / day, which should easily fit on a double layer.
I guess cutting some of the forfeit battles and repeat recorded material could go a long way to bring at least all the battles on with a much better quality.
As far as I'm concerned you can downscale the studio bits, since they're not moving much anyway - although I'm sure I'll get flamed a bit from people who want a couple good sharp shots of the likes of Tux and you and Lady Eris.

The 1g/day value was the broadcast quality. The recorded quality is alot higher, so you can spy the racoon nesting happily in my hair in a nice hi res. Multiply that by ~45 hours of footage, and you see that we have a little problem when it comes to deciding what to keep and what to dispose of.

CCP will be releasing a DVD from the alliance tournament and are working right now on putting everything together. It will take approx. 3 weeks to work through all the content, put it together properly and so on.
There will be 1 DVD with the finals, highlights of other matches and some of the other material shown on EVE TV.

However many DVDs it takes, do it to get the whole damn tourny out there. I'll buy that, but nothing with the final match as the "main event".

I certainly wouldn't object to the release of this 'and' a multi disc set but releasing just a single disc seems a bit odd. It is just not possible to encapsulate the magnitude and scope of this tournament on a single DVD.
Perhaps it would be possible to release the single DVD for those who want and include that single DVD in a bundle with the full battle footage of the tournament. The other discs could have comparatively low production values, scene selection to choose between battles to watch and straight forward functional menus would be more than sufficient.
I showed a friend some of the vid feeds that i had downloaded of the tournament and the the first words out of his mouth was that the battles are so "incredibly epic" he was blown away. I would love nothing more than to view my favorite battles of the tournament, unlikely to be the same as the Dev's or the members of the EVE-TV staff which did such a wonderful job, and share those highlights with good quality video playback and sound on my home theatre.
I don't think this is an issue of sticker shock, that some may expect. Those of us who want the multi disc set are smart enough to know that this is a small DVD release, compared to any major theatrical DVD releases, and therefore the costs for a multi DVD set are going to be high, probalby in the $50-70USD range.
If volume is the primary concern then calculate the costs, and estimate the retail price of such a multi disc set and allow us to pre-order it, perhaps putting $20 or $30 down towards the final purchase price or something. If insufficient orders are received for the multi-dvd set then state so and refund those pre-ordering individuals their money. If not, the pre-order cash committment should be a sufficient demonstration of those individual's intent to purchase the 'Box Set' to move forward with its production.

Part of the charm of this whole eve-TV adventure was the novelty and groundbreaking nature of the broadcast. I'm really only mildly interested in watching others play a game. I really dug the fact that it was an "event" or as we used to say in the US a "happening".
It's the same reason I don't watch regular season soccer, but I can't get enough World Cup.
Now get back in your cages and make a full DVD set of the WHOLE thing and feel free to charge more for it.

but someone has to sort out the admin of taking pre-orders, and then keeping track, and then refunding them...this is only really being done by one person, Xyliana. all these suggestions are great, they reaslly are, but this isn't a film company taking care of it with a CCP dev holding the purse strings saying 'make it so'. it's a one person venture with CCP devs helping in their spare time.

If insufficient orders are received for the multi-dvd set then state so and refund those pre-ordering individuals their money. If not, the pre-order cash committment should be a sufficient demonstration of those individual's intent to purchase the 'Box Set' to move forward with its production.
but someone has to sort out the admin of taking pre-orders, and then keeping track, and then refunding them...this is only really being done by one person, Xyliana. all these suggestions are great, they reaslly are, but this isn't a film company taking care of it with a CCP dev holding the purse strings saying 'make it so'. it's a one person venture with CCP devs helping in their spare time.

Ok, i guess that looks to be the correct thought..
however, i am in agreement with what Deren Thaldrel stated above..
A polished, condensed DVD of the tourney would be great, however after
downloading and seeing pretty much the whole event (graciously provided by
Lilight in this thread
i'd really like a high quality version of the whole tourney made available for
those of us who want the whole unedited event complete with lunacy, boring fights, announcers making blatant errors, commentators making fools of themselves (as well
as some great analysis) -everything.
for a first run, CCP produced an outstanding TV event. -and more to he point, true to CCP & Eve Online form & philosophy, this event was for the players, about the players and by the players. you did not have a bunch of professional (or semi-professional) announcers and commentators running the show, you basically took a risk, put your faith in the outstanding Eve community, and had the front and center of EveTV all run by the players..
To love Eve is to love all it's nuance, all it's flavors, both
bitter and sweet.. I think the EveTV production in full, captured
this well.. *shrug*
ok, so maybe i'm a bit of a fanboy, i'm playing eve now for 2yrs 6mo+
and the game still captivates me in every way. -anyway.. i'm sure i'm not
alone in wanting a high quality version of the whole tournament made available.
while the avi torrents of the tourney LiLight provided are pretty good, i'd
like higher quality so as to better analyze (and enjoy) the battles
of the tournament.
if the logistics of making a full DVD is out of the question, how about just
giving us a high quality dvd image or avi of the full tourney to download..?
i'm sure once its available, the eve community will seed a torrent of it to ease
the load of dl'ing from your servers...
this way we could all have our cake and eat it too :)
(if this interferes with some marketing aspect of the single DVD,
you could delay the full release a few weeks/month or so, so
as to have a limited impact on your isk making abilities..) :)
so how about it? is download access a possibility? -or is there some issue
i have overlooked that prevents this from becoming a reality?
i never thought at 42 i'd ever care one iota about a game,

CCP is a collaboration of artists working in a rare harmony creating
a living, breathing interactive artform called Eve Online.
EveTv has givin us a glimpse behind the canvas and glimpse of
the other major aspect of Eve, -it's community.
To deny us the full event is akin to experiencing Eve Online
with just one eye that can see only black and white.
-you just cannot deprive us of a high quality landmark event
i simply forbid it.

I'm going buy this... but I'd rather have the entirity of the tournament on a dvd set box... don't even need menus I'd settle for anything as long as I get the entire tournament at high quality... will keep hoping.

That's a shame, really. I guess I'll just have to make my own dvd boxed set of everything, then. Sad thing is it will cost a tenth of what your single dvd will, I'll wager.
