I'm basically writting this for anyone that is close to getting their first carrier and are intelegent enough to want to learn from other's mistakes/issues before repeating them themselves. A member of the MC (Hygelac) has put up an excellent guide to carriers so anyone finding this thread through the forum search feature should certainly give his thread and excellent guide a look. I encourage others to add to this or correct anything I have below. Without further ado...
Issue #1:
Fighters refuse to MWD back to the carrier when told to return to drone bay or return and orbit.
Solution for high sec space (0.5 - 0.7):
If running missions, leave close orbitting targets for last. Have your fighters kill all the BS, BC and cruisers from furthest to nearest. Once all the BS/BC/cruisers are gone, scoop fighters and finish the close range fast movers with drones.
or...
Jettison a can. Target the can and tell your fighters to attack it. They will MWD to the can, thus closeing the distance so you can scoop them.
or if in low sec...
Assign the fighters to a gang mate that is close by. They will MWD to the gang mate making it much faster to scoop.
Issue #2:
Disconnect causes fighters to follow the carrier to the ctd/log-off "safe-spot". Oce the carrier auto warps back to it's original position after relog the fighters remain at the safe-spot.
Solution:
As soon as you log back in **IMEDIATELY** Bookmark the safespot. It probably wouldn't hurt to BM it several times. When your carrier warps back to your original position prior to the crash you can just warp back to the safe where your fighters "should" be waiting. You'll have to fly to each one and scoop them to drone bay.
Issue #3:
Dropping large amounts of stuff into the corp hangar of a carrier will super-lag both the person putting the items in and the carrier pilots client as well.
Solution:
None that I'm aware of. Just be mindful of where you are and the combat conditions around you when doing huge transfers in space. A safespot is highly recomended when taking from or putting in any amount of loot/gear/ammo/etc to the carrier corp hangars.
Issue #4:
Fighters don't seem to do as much damage as would be expected. "Quickfit says that the average BS should only last 20 seconds to 13 firbolgs but mine take anywhere from 30 seconds to a full minute to destroy the average BS. What gives?"
Solution:
Be patient. Fighters suffer the same MWD "bug/feature" as drones and will MWD around their target doing little to no damage for several seconds. I've personally watched fighters ravage some battleships in short order and take an eternity on other similar fit battleships. Fighter tracking is a bit "meh" to be honest. I've found that using the drone tracking link module helps improve fighter damage quite a bit, but at the expense of carrier tank. But rest assured that the average battleship faceing 13 fighters is, for the most part, living on borrowed time.

Good post..
Intelligence can be a big issue in EvE eh :)
Also where can I get that carrier that flies in high security space? I'll have 2 please? seriously tho, edit that part out, it ruins the reader: when I read that first part I wanted to go to another post, but turned out the other points are pretty solid ;)

THIS + THIS + faction standing = THESE and THESE (but NOT the motherships)
I'm kind of hoping that CCP won't take this feature out of empire but the jury is still out on this issue.
This is certainly not the thread to argue weather this should be allowed or not as there are plenty already in the starbases/pos section of the forum. Eve-mail me if you'd like more details on how it all works or simply visit the starbases/pos section.
(and yes, it is well within the game mechanics and thus LEGAL... for now...) |

Yes.. That would work.. Provided you could anchor and online those large assembly arrays in high sec. |

you can. There is currently no restrictions placed on the large assy arrays at to what security system they can be placed in. The only requirement they have is that there be a POS tower with enough cpu/grid to run it and that is it.
This isn't "theory", it is fact. Capital ships can be built in empire at any system which a POS can be set up.
Again, ISD (BH Runner) sent a word up to the dev content team (as per this thread) as to weather this "feature" was intended or if it was just a simple oversight.
Nothing has been heard yet from either ISD or the dev team so I can only speculate that they are mulling this over and weighing the pros and cons.
or...
It was in fact intended and put in as a "stealth" feature to be discovered by the players.
Only the devs know for sure.
We've kinda derailed this thread a little but some clarification was necessary on the whole carrier in secure empire part of the original post.

are you absolutely positive on that ?
I tried three of those and saw no increase in fighter damage the last time ( ca weeks ago) I tested that.
Is there any official say on that they affect fighters ?
Any hint appreciated, Gap

You are correct and I've changed the original post and added an update to the bottom of it.
I truly hope that omni links not working for fighters is a bug or was simply overlooked.

Ok, thanks. I've been told that they no longer would online or anchor through a stealth nerf. Guess my intel was wrong then.

Right, but since when can you set up a POS in higher than .4 space ? No POS = no assembly array = no carriers or dreads in .5 or higher.
