For anyone who has experinced combat in EVE, anyone will tell u as far as cruisers go buy a black bird. is it just me or should the 2-3 mil black bird not be the best the caldari has to offer; let alone pretty much the best cruiser in the game? The MOA is suppose to be the best for the caldari, however it lacks the Med slots to be an effective EW ship. and lacks the powergrid and cpu to be able to effectively equip 4 good turrets and 2 missle launchers and still have any decent med and low modules.
My simple solution is to change the moa to have 4 turret hardpoints but bump the missle hardpoints to 3-4 to make it a more viable choice for combat, and truly the "class" of the caldari navy. adding cpu and cap i feel would unbalance the ship.

Edited by: Jim Raynor on 06/10/2003 05:39:50 No cruiser can truly overpower a battleship.. thus the Moa/Maller/Thorax/Rupture (the high firepower cruisers) will never win against any kind of battleship, obviously. They are simply out classed.
EW cruisers, like the blackbird, which can DISABLE a battleship are invaluable though, because they're cheap and effective. A blackbird can still easily be taken out with FOF missles or drones though, however it's effectiveness/cost value is very high, thus very useful.
Blackbird is just a better PvP ship than the Moa. There's nothing wrong with the Moa, compared to other cruisers of it's class, it's very powerful. If you want to kill NPCs get a Moa, if you want PvP, get a blackbird. ------

I think what he's trying to say is that, sure you can fit 4 high end guns and 2 high end launchers, but this leaves you with little power to fit some high end equipment in the med and low slots.
Unlike the Maller however which has a wack load of powergrid and can easily fit 5 juicy weapons and fill its lows and meds quite nicely too. After flying both, i prefer the Maller as you can fiddle about with it loads, but then again I was never a big missile user, and i'm sure some cruise missiles on the Moa would put its firepower streams ahead of the Maller.

Compare the Moa to the other level 3 cruisers instead, pretty balanced actually. Maller - lots of grid/CPU and turrets, but left with 0 drone space and missile slots Moa - Decent grid/CPU, 4 turrets, 2 launchers, 250 drone bay. Thorax - Pretty bad grid/CPU, 5 turrets, but with a sh*tload of drone space Rupture - As with the other minmatar ships, a decent cruiser with mixed turret/missile capability (6 highslots, 4 turret/3 missile), 600m3 drone space.

The Moa's a good solid ship, for NPC pirate hunting or mining. I've got two 250 rails for long range, 1 dual 150 rail for closing, and 1 neutron blaster for those NPCs which spawn on top of me. Two large missile launchers (an arbalest and an upgraded something-or-other) complete the armament.
The 4 med slots give you room for 2-3 shield hardeners, a shield recharge booster and/or a MWD for those rapid escapes. More shield recharge boosters in the low slots along with the occasional tracking assister. Bung your 5 light drones into your bay and you've got a ship which can warp into the middle of a pirate cruiser spawn and take out 4-5 bad guys without the shields going down.
No idea how it manages PvP, but in NPC combat it's a real brawler. No complaints here : it's a cruiser, not a battleship.

Ummm... Zarthan I have no idea what your talking about. A well fitted MOA can waste any other crusier of its class. 6 high slots. That means 4 250mm prot and h-50 launchers. Plus unlike the thorax it has more then enough cpu and pwr. So you can pack those low slots with high end dmg mods. Vortex.
Add some cruise missiles and you got one heck of a combat ship. I do not put sheild mods in my med slots but loot tracking computers. With 3 of them I get 23km opt range with anti-matter ammo.
Yah can you say 130 - 200 dmg hits X4 every 4 sec at 20+ km? Oh and did I mention 600 dmg X2 every 10 seconds from those h-50s? This is more dmg then any other crusier can dish out, at long range. Except the Rupture but it has crap for sheilds, cpu, and pwr.

Well, that all depends on skill ingame and out of it. An Idiot flying a moa could just as well be wasted by a merlin.

Thorax woudl own a moa any day of the week. The droen capcity on the thorax just makes it way better. The drone cap on a moa is useless if your going to use more then just the 4 turret bays. Because all you'll do is blow the drones up. My only suggestion was i think to make the ship slightly better and make more sense drop the 250 drone cap and give it an extra missel hardpoint or two. Also if you equip 4 250's and 2 h-50's u sure as heck are not going to have much of any room for anything in your med or low slots. Unless you do wish to spend millions on proto;s and arblasts and risk loosing them to npc's _______________________________________________________ Get custom sigs and graphics done here Unforgivn Website

I'm not sure but I think this disparity is by design. There is a BIG power gap from Frigate to Cruiser and Cruiser to Battleship.
Later in the game they might release ships and modules that will fill this gap. One day you might actually have a level 3 or 4 Cruiser properly equipment that might be a threat to a level 1 battleship.
We just have to wait and see.
