Hey there,
Its getting hard for me to complete lvl 2 missions with my tristan. Missile batteries , pirate fighters are owning me with missiles. I just cant tank that much damage till i get close even if i put on afterburner. ( they shoot at 30km , and i need at least 15km to send missiles , and around 8-11 for railguns ) Should i get a destroyer ? Maybe a cruiser ? or maybe i can get some armor and armor repairers for my tristan and try again ?

Personally I wouldn't bother.
They have a higher sig radius which makes them easier to hit for more damage (specially at long ranges) and they aren't much tougher than a frig (plus I've never seen anything good said about a Catalyst). If you can do some of the missions, just have a hard time with them, then I'd keep your tristan and just train up your supporting skills to improve your tank and speed and save the money to put towards your first cruiser/battle cruiser.
The only one I'd ever spend money on for missioning is the Cormorant. Or maybe a coercer, I was able to successfully rat in .2 in one

I agree... don't go for the destroyer. They are very stressful to equip well. Shoot for the Cruiser. Then life get a whole lot easier. Oh... and don't forget your drones skills. I recommend you have drones 5 before you step into a Thorax. Drones... the reliable, unforgiving, relentless and deadly little buddies of mine. |

Bogus. Why would he need to wait for Drones 5? Dont understand me wrong, drones are great - but there is no need to wait.

I take it that you can afford a cruiser but you want to make every mission a challenge in the smallest possible ship, right? If range can help you, you could get into a catalyst. With a few skills, fitting and ammo, you can shoot them from way over 40km away. But remember: if they close in you're dead: a catalyst is amazingly fragile, even with the half-decent tanking you can afford with the few slots it has... I used to rat in a .3 system with a catalyst: I had to pay a little attention, but it worked pretty well.
If you can afford ot lose the fitted modules (probably a few named rails mainly) you should try it: it's not an easy bird to fly, but it works. Or you can step up to a cruiser and make your life easier.

Drone V?
I have had Drone IV for a while, and my medium scout drones eat up rats. I dont even fire a shot either.
Don't forget this: Drones are like ships....Just training to fly a new ship doesn't mean it is better than your old one. You still need to train the subsytem skills as well. Train in Drone Navigation, Drone Interface (when you get Drone V), Drone Sharpshooting?, Drone Durability, and of course Drone Combat... There are other skills as well just for drones that will make them a killing machine.
Think of it this way... If you train all of your drone support skills to something easy like level 2 or 3 for each... And you pit your drones against a Tech 2 drone with no subsystem training.. You little pit bull will probably win and the other guy will be wondering "How in the hell?"

Drone op 5 is like getting a learning skill to 5, it only adds one drone, but drone interfacing 3 takes a couple of days and adds 60% to durability and strength to the 5. so it's like going from 4 drones to 8 drones inside a week.
