Just a curious survey along the lines of the age thread but more EVE related.
Just wondering how long you played EVE for before you got your first Battleship ?
For me it was 4 months

I dunno yet, been playing for a month now and I still don't have one. In fact I haven't even really made enough to get my own cruiser, if it wasn't for my corp I don't think I'd be in one at all.
The only real way to make money is with the aid for BS's and that's hunting/mining in the 0.0 regions of space, anywhere else requires such a huge time investment it's stupid and you STILL have to find megacyte and zydine from somewhere.

Edited by: SKiNNiEH on 06/10/2003 11:13:58 Took me fairly long... cant really remember, but i think 6 - 7 weeks.. hmmm... maybe more like 9 week :).
Reason: I didnt want to get in a Battleship without having mastered the art of piloting a cruiser. And with that i dont mean mining, but combat in 0.0 space against the nasty 30 - 40k pirates. At a certain point, progressing to the battleship was very natural and not mr. newbie with only some mining skills flying a battleship with 7 Cu Vapors in 1.0 space. -------

120 millions for a megathron about 2.5-3 weeks (mining 3 days, NPC hunting the rest). No idea for how long I had been playing, 3 months or so (I think 3 months is actually pretty accurate).

Took me 2 weeks Farming NPCs in my MOA for my first Battleship, a Scorpion. After that it took about 2 more weeks to Farm for my Apoc , and 1 week to farm/mine for my Megathron. then i changed my Megathron for a Raven.

Scordite.
I mined 10 hours a day in a thorax, using 5 miner 1's and harvesters 7x.
Mined scordite for orders that gave me 7 isk (currently you can find 8 or even 9 isk orders) and made 1mil a hour that way. 7 days 10 hours a day mining for 1 mil = 70 mil and that caused me to buy my first armageddon.
Since that day i havent mined again. __________________________

I been playing for 2 months now and when I started saving up for my first BS it took me about 2 weeks. Now I could make the money to buy one in a day. There is no real secret in making isk by the millions, all I need is any or all of the following.. 1)A good high cash flow to trade on the normal market(Not the trade channel) 2)Some nice 0.0 mining locations for bistot(Getting rare now) 3)Chain kill 30K+ rats and sell the loot( market and trade channel) and then recycle all the left over loot. 4)Nice factory base in a good area. 5)And a good lvl 3 agent.
With a mixture of the above or all of then if you can you will have a good cash making base with lots of different things to do each day. Most important thing is to have fun though, money is not everything.

Took me a little under 2 months to get my Dominix. I could have had it much sooner, but I wouldn't have had a decent skill base to go with it (both in-game and out-of-game skills).

I even have my dominix parked atm, and fly around in blackbird, just for the heck of it. --

I had the game three months before I bought my Armageddon, but once I actually decided to save for a battleship, it took approximately three weeks.
I played quite often, but I'm not one of those shamefully embarassing geeks who will dedicate 8 hours in a row to blasting a rock with a laser.
Through hunting in a the right area, and selling the loot at a fair rate, it wasn't terribly difficult. Centauri,

started EVE with in the 2nd week of retail and I think i had my 1st BS in about 3.5 months.
I have only mine 2X in retail and both times was for Ark in a rookie ship just to get started .. eversence it has been nothing but hunting, selling loot, and agent missions (not that missions are very profitable)
i probably could of done it lots faster but i spent a lot of time having FUN and not rushing.

P.S. I now have 3 BS's and nearly my 4th. |

Better hide behind an asteroid then or you'll have this ship only for a very short time. It's the skills that make you powerful, not the ship.

If you create a character with level IV frigate and Spaceship command level 1, then it should take you no more than 2 to 3 weeks to get BS ready, training the cruiser skills & spaceship command exclusively. I had the BS before I was even able to fly it, a level 1 Amarr BS (Armageddon), hopefully you are in a Corp that likes to work together as it will take dedicated mining/hauling to pull off the necessary creds for a lvl 1 BS.

I wasn't even considering a battleship until I had my Rupture blown out from under me... I made a decision there and then. I wouldn't do anything unless it helped me towards a battleship. I started at that point with around 15 - 20 million in the bank after a couple of months playing. Once the decision was made, I was riding a Tempest 2 weeks later. 75 million in 2 weeks, almost exclusively trading Isogen. That was sometime ago though, and most of the Iso trading options have now dried up... It's funny, but now I'm in a Tempest it seems like there are new ways of making money

I've been playing almost 4 weeks (this sunday) and could jump into a BS if I felt like it. All I would need to train would be Caldari BS skill lvl1 Which wouldnt take me too long. I have somewhere slightly above 1 mill skill points amassed in that time.
However, it would more or less be a waste of time since I would be nowhere near where I'd need to be in the ancillary skills to make use of it.

I lost it about a week later, uninsured. that put things into perspective for me so after that i mined my arse off for an Apoc, took about 2 weeks of mining scord.
now i just farm rats in venal all day (and oh yea, all gunnery skills at 3 and am trying to go through to raise them to 4 now, har har)

Don't expect to get a BS until next year (if ever). Simply don't have the time to mine sufficiently to raise the funds.
For the meanwhile, I'll be happy in a Moa.
A suggestion on replacing lost cruisers: I keep a Vexor strictly for mining. If I get my main ship blown up, between insurance and a little mining, I'm back in business.

"Congratulations, You purchased a battleship! You win the game!" <Credits start rolling>
I'd just like to point out that EVE is not a race towards battleships, although many people still think it is..
I don't own one, and don't have any intentions of owning one in the near future, simply because NPC hunting in 0.1 with my Vigil is so much more fun.Sure, i might not blast a 50k pirate into the stone age, but i can hold my own. And if i do die (which rarely happens with my current setup) So what, lose a couple of rares and 125k worths of ship.
I wish orbit-mode was changed so that you'd go staight into orbit and rev up to maximum speed. This way the game would become more balanced, as a fast and agile frigate pilot going at 1600 m/s and faster like myself, could send your big battleship turrets loopy.

Hmm... Been playing since a couple weeks after release and still dont have a battleship. Main reason is: I can't keep that amount of ISK or any high amount of ISK in my pocket without it screaming "Spend me." A once retired pilot, now, once again helping those that fight the good fight. |

2-3 months. I didn't want to bother until I felt I had the skills to make use of it. I have enough fun flying around cruisers and frigates. Most of the good cash opportunities in Eve are kinda boring, so it took me a while to save (I funded it entirely through combat).
Mining? Never.

Edited by: Nikunda on 17/10/2003 02:16:56 I could have a BS at any time I wanted one. I make about 15 Mil a day between both of my accounts. I mine with a Thorax, using 10 Harvestors with Mining Drone Skill lvl 5, and 5 Cu Vapors, with Mining 5, and Astrogeology 5. I haul in a very nice amount of minerals, using a Bestower to haul.
Once I'm ready, I'll be in a battleship. I've been playing since retail, so I have enough skill points to just about accomplish anything I wanted. I'm very glad my memory skill was the first thing I upped, allowed me to relax the training time a little. My current memory attribute is 22

Yeah, I actually stayed in a Thorax longer than I needed to, as I though it would be obscene to pilot a BS without having some better skills.
So basically the Isk was easier to get than the skill points. And I have to admit that I had only M hybrid skills for for first couple of months after I got my Domi. Did have DI 3 and Heavy Drones 3 tho, so didn't feel completely defenceless ;P

I got my 'Nix about 3 days after implants started dropping :)
Before that time I hadn't really even thought about being a BS pilot but when you've got several tens of millions of ISK sitting around you might as well spend it...
I still don't have large turret skills...when I farm rats I just use medium enery ('cause hybrids are soo bad) and leave all my protection mid-mods running continuously...I'm just lazy I guess.
Off-topic..I sure wish they'd put some super-heavy drones in the game so I could make better use of all that drone space.
