While I've wished for a long time that goonfleet people would stop making smoske references, the reason some goonfleet members keep perpetuating it (internally, on our private forums) is that every time someone feels like taking a cheap shot at goonfleet they trot out a two-year-old(three?) incident, something that predates our entire corporation and 99% of our memberships' involvement with Eve, and wave it around like a flag to try to denigrate our entire corp. i.e, I think at this point, most goons see Smoske references against us as cheap attempts to use a dead man for political gain. This thread is a great example -- Tet's sig is completely irrellevant to the topic of this thread, and what's-his-name only mentions it to score political points.
As to relatives . .. my mother's dead. I still make "yo'mama" jokes. When someone makes a "yo'mama" joke at me, I go completely deadpan and just say "Dude, my mom's dead." Then a few seconds later I relax and laugh, because after a certain point, you have to learn to laugh at things like that. Making a joke here or there is a far healthier response to tragedy than waving that tragedy around as a political ploy.

How would you feel if that person, after you told him your mom's dead, said: "lol, your mom died ? what a noob :D" ? Cause thats the level of the goonfleet "references". Don't even try to make it right or claim it is somehow justified.

You people should really stop making a fuzz about this. His signature on our forums is an attempt at making fun at the rest of EVE-O, whose only argument against us is that pre-Goonfleet Smoske thing. So what, it accidentally leaked to our public forum because he posted there.
I still don't see the point here, you folks just seem to be trying to spin it the way it suits you. Granted, this is understandable, since you lack the frame of reference in this, yet you also ignore the explanation given already at the top of this page, which isn't really surprising.
Seriously, try something else than Smoske, or whatever it's spelled.

The biggest fault in that statement is its banality. Death is the ultimate expression of noobishness.
It's pretty clear that Tetsujin's sig is a metajoke about the whole Smoske mess. The sig portrays everyone jumping aboard the "bandwagon" truck, and then the bandwagon crushes poor old Smoske. It's tasteless, but I don't think he means any insult to Smoske by it.
I wish all goons would drop the Smoske thing because it offends certain people, but this is how many of us deal with death. Years ago members of somethingawful saved another poster's life by tracking him down when he tried to commit suicide. Some months later he died of natural causes. There was a period of sadness over the incident, heightened all the more because his death undid a piece of samaritanship with which many were pleased, but people were also happy to make jokes about it. That's part of how we cope with the fact that we are all walking around, as Bruce Sterling put it in his rearrangement of the tale of Damocles, with dynamite strapped to our backs.

From what I understand, Smoske died riding down the Autobahn whilst high. This is common suicide rital for people who have nothing left in life and want to go out in a bang.
Why am I telling you this?
Because my wife was killed and I was scarred for life by someone doing exactly this on the Autobahn last year. We had been married for less than a week, and were on our honeymoon travelling europe.
I don't know if what happened to this guy was suicide or not, and nor do I care. What matters is that his actions were incredibly irresponsible and put not only his life, but the lives of everybody around them in danger. This is one of the lowest, most selfish thing a human being can do.
I agree that making jokes about dead people is not funny, but there are a lot of people here who treat Smoske like a god to be worshipped, when in actual fact he (and everyone like him) is just one level away from being a murderer.
If Smoske had hit and killed your mother, sister, daughter, or wife would you still be treating him as some kind of idol? Or is it ok that he only hit a truck containing strangers?

I 110% back this comment. The goonfleet comments in this thread are utterly dispicable. Firstly to have this in his signature, making a joke with reference about a person that has died with malicious content whether it was intented or not while his relations will come accross it at some point is *speechless*.
And then to see other human beings, back it up, with dreadful arguements and complete disrepect to life.

It was not my intention to cause hurt. I forgot that I made posts on our public forum, and if I had remembered that I would have censored my personal tribute to a missed forum member, using my own grating sense of humor, which is generally freely expressed within our private forums but which I am fully aware does not agree with everyone.
