Edited by: Tir Connaill on 26/07/2006 11:15:05 I'm a Gallentean in the default ship with 75,000 ISK gathered during the tutorial.
All I'd done on the skill front is raise my frigate skill to level 2 and I think I can now buy a different one. Few questions:
Should I always have a skill training ? My initial aim is to do some mining and couriering (what else can an unskilled newb do that's interesting by the way ? ) so what skills should I develop ?
Should I buy another ship ? If so what to go for ? What can I gain by trying to join a Corp ?
I've really enjoyed the Tutorial time but feel a bit overwhelmed as to what to do - some suggestions would get me focussedand be greatly appreciated, Thanks,
Tir Connaill

Absolutely, skills train when you're offline so you should have one training at all times. Do short ones (lvl 1s and 2s) while you're online and longer ones while you're offline.
For mining and courier stuff, check out the Navitas as it gets a cargo and mining bonus.

Welcome to EVE Tir!
Its a big old universe and one can feel a bit overwhelmed. However, don't try to take it all in at once. ALWAYS keep skill training running and time it so that once a skill completes, you can then start to train a new one straightaway.
Try running some missions to build up standing and isk. There are a variety of mission types around and the kill missions payout the most but are also more dangerous. However, joining a corporation is the key to pushing on in EVE (in my view). Jump across to the Recruitment section of the EvE-O forum or drop me a line ingame.
A decent ship would be the tristan - very versatile though a tad expensive. With 75,000isk - a navitas would be a decent bet and you can mine scordite for a while and sell that to make some money before moving on into a tristan. An imicus is a nice ship too - good for mining and courier work. Heck, after two years - I still fly one!!

Yes.

You can run kill missions. Those will teach you a bit about fighting and pay more than courier missions. Agents are divided into departments and the more "warlike" departments give out more killmissions. Once you have some ISK you can play the markets. That should earn you more than courier missions and is also more interesting since you have to find a trade route first and arent just grinding mindless agent missions. Or you can team up with others and do more difficult stuff with them.

Yes, buy another ship. Which ship depends on what you want to do. I would first go for the low-end combat frig.
Originally by: Tir Connaill What can I gain by trying to join a Corp ?
Company, teamwork, slavework in some, and some will give you free stuff.

Try out stuff. Mining, courier missions, kill missions, low sec ratting, trading etc.

Hey Tir,
I advice you to join a corp or clan, they can help you.
You want to train the skill you want to use. As some skill levels can take 20days to train you always want to train a skill. Ex: train a skill that takes more then 8hourse before you go to sleep. (that if you sleep 2 hours) if training is finished it stops... so the next morning you activate it again... so your always training some skill.
To be able to fly a new ship you need the skills.. right click the ship you want and look at required skills.... (with anything you buy)
if you still have a rooky ship: To start i advice you to buy a "tristan"
if you want to become a miner join a mining corporation.... mining with a corp. is MUCH more profitable.... if you are mining in a "gang" you equally share the profits... ( ex: 3 mining ships, 1 transporter & 1 security )
also the better your mining skills the better the mining....(more money etc)
just in case: to join a corp go to a station and click the corp tab (on the left) look for a nice mining corp and click join.
again.... pay close attention to "info" allot of times you go buying weapons and afterwards you see you cant put them on your ship.
Other thing.... the lower the security zone (more pirates) the better the ors (the stuff you mine). as a rooky stay out of there !!!!! but latez in a corp or a better ship you can go mining there and really start making some money..
after you got some more experience with your new frigate and have some more money you can start thinking about building a destroyer or a industrial ship.
other note: if you donĘt have a skill, you can buy them in the market.
good luck out there & stay safe,
Zero

I disagree. Ratting in lowsec is probably the most profitable way to make money for a rooky.

Either Merlin or Kestrel, depending if you have gunnery skills or not. ---- EVE-Central.com - Cross-region market view and trade finder |

Hi Tir, I am pretty new myself. one of my advice to you is to get your learning skills up. try the skills sub-forum. they will probably give you some guides. oh yess, look for eve mon and quick fit. two very nifty programs. Eve mon helps you plan your character while quick fit allows you to try out different fittings for your ship. A definite must! Cheers and have fun

Also, have you done the storyline missions that come after the tutorial? It's courier missions and a little boring but it pays VERY well if you see it through to the end.

Hello there fellow Beginner!
I astarted playing the game couple days ago and felt the same way you do now. I had the same question in front of me as well. For myself, i desided to go into mining to start off, slowly training my skills for an average fighter ship. I joined a great corporation which does mining operations around 4 times a week so during first one (yesteday, spent 2 hours) i managed to save up enough money to buy mining Frigate Bantam and Frigate Merlin, fit them, buy some basic skills (learning, mechanics, science etc.) and still have about 1.4kk ISK left. And it is also helpful to plan your skill training ahead so you will not have to spend time on the skills you will not be using...

Hi,
i started a few days ago too, sofar i have worked up the skill and idsk for a badgerII for the purpose of mining for long periods of time, whilst playing wow/ffxi on my second screen, at nearly 10k cargo, my little mining laser is very inadequate, but continued progress in mining and some of the other required skills should increase my intake,
aside from my badgerII i also have one of the missile frigates (kestral?)i use to zip around in, and do kill missions in,
diversify what you can do,
also remember, this is your first of 3 available characters, this guy would be better planned out as your farmer/cashcow when your at sufficient skill level to make a truck load of cash with him, you can stop his training and start your pure kill(pvp/pve) character, thats how im planning my game out as, just a few ideas,
