I live in CNY and it seems the game is down from 7am to 8am EST.

If you mean hours of low activity, things generally tend to die down by 11PM EST, though there's still usually 10k plus online past midnight.
(East Coast FTW \o/ DC here myself.) --- What good are actions if there's no one to tell the tale afterward?...
Plays "Amarii Oulasangeri" ingame. No longer plays Andre Ricard (sold). |

You may be referring to the downtime. The downtime is a daily maintenance routine. The server can't just be on forever, so they shut it down to reset the server, work out any kinks, get it back up and running smoothly for the day. __________________________________

Since nobody actually answered the question, downtime is 11:00 - 12:00 GMT.
In EST, that's 06:00-07:00, although you're probably in EDT currently, so add an hour.

Well just look in game at EVE time, DownTime is between 11-12 EVE time :)
You can translate this to your local time easily then :)

What peeves me more than anything (well, not more than pkscum :) is that EVE is yet another mmog that caters to the yanks as far as DT goes...& it's a European developer. Sad.

I think the reason for the downtime being at 11-12 GMT is because it gives the CCP guys a chance to have a few beers for breakfast, and then if the DT needs to be extended for any particular reason they can still clock off at 5 and then head to the pub!
Question: what do they call pubs in Iceland?

I believe I did answer the question a couple of posts ago. Offline hours in EDT would be 7am-8am. Huh.

Oh get over THAT one mate! It coincides with an early luchtime for me so I set my antivirus scan to coincide and grab a bit to eat, or else call clients. Don't think of it as an issue....rather an opportunity. There is a thing called real life you know, and taking part in that, if only for an hour, HAS to be good!

HAH! You wouldn't be saying that if it was YOUR 9-10pm every night of the week MATE!
We Aussies get screwed the hardest on DT in all mmogs - anyone arguing with that is a yank, so there!

Hmmm, I'm only new to this game but I live in Perth, Western Australia. I've been playing less than 24hours but I was enjoying the tutorial and starting to get into it when a message tells me the game is to close down for an hour. After a little research I find out this happens at the same time every day???
Thats 7-8pm for me. I guess some noob that isn't even paying for the game shouldn't be expected to have an opinion, but to me this something that makes the game unplayable. As a school teacher with children I am lucky to only play a couple hours mmo per night. I guess it falls to the aussies to suffer cause of our time zone, but i think it would have been much fairer to have the down time every 25 hours. at least that would give everyone a fair slice of the downtime. Oh well, I wish you all the very best, seems like a great game.

Edited by: Lucy Lawful on 28/07/2006 11:43:12 The only saving grace for us Aussies I guess is that the skills play themselves while we're offline
I doubt 25hrs will ever happen, though a rolling DT is a good & fair idea iktor - pub times in UK/Iceland are set
Well, there's always plenty of planning, reading & EVE surfing during DT!

Well I suppose it could be worse for you... they could introduce separate servers and you would be grouped in with Japan and Korea?
Bet you're not looking forward to next week and the extended downtime?
Question: What does an Aussie do during DT?
(Answers on a postcard please)

Eve's downtime doesn't cater to the yanks. It caters to the hours that are convenient for the Eve staffers.
In fact I've noticed a higher number of players online during my daytimes (CDT USA) than evenings when you would assume most NA players would be on.

I stand corrected (though I'm mostly always correct :)
I've seen as little as 10K & as many as 20K players on throughout my play times, but then I'm one of those weird early risers you may find playing EVE on Sun morning at 6am...

The servers are located in London hence DT is scheduled to cause as minimal disruption in a normal working day as possible for the tech staff.

Blame Columbus for proving that the world isn't flat. If it were, this wouldn't be a problem.
