I want to make an alt on a second accout to fly a hauler. Thats all he/she will ever do, possibly get into a t2 hauler at some point and maybe even a freighter eventually. But no mining, no trading, no pvp, no other ships, no other skills. Just the indy/freighter skills.
What race should I go, what startup attribs should I use and is it gonna be worth it training the learning skills on this account?

Gellente get the Iteron V, to which nothing compares.
The Iteron V is alone for being truly "big" and "cheap".
However, the Occator is severely over priced due to the the number of folks that can fly it (and that is due to the superiority of the Iteron V.....)
The Viator is a good Blockade runner, but truth be told, the Minmatar and Amarr ones are better.
For T2 haulers, the best combo is Minmatar
Amarr have the best Blockade runner, and the biggest Transport, but the Impel is so slow with expanders that its potential size is not woth the slow speed. Also, with expanders it cant tank worth a damn.
The Occator can at least fit a shield boost or something when it fits for cargo, but still does not tank as well as it should unless low slots are used, just like the Impel.
The Bustard and Mastadon both can shield tank reasonably AND fit expanders.
The Crane sucks.
So, the Minmatar get an excellent blockade runner (close second best), and excellent Transport (Very close second best, #1 best if you prefer it's resistances....). The Mammoth is also a good Tech 1 hauler, even if it is not as big as the Iteron V.
As for Freighters, the Minmatar one is smallest, but it is also the most nimble and fastest. Believe me, that makes a difference, both in 0.0 and in afk empire.

Did anyone ever do the math on what starting race / initial selection is most time efficient to get a hauler alt up to 10K M3 (packaged Cruiser size)? I mention time-efficient for people that train up one on the same account.
I would expect Amarr + Amarr Indy lvl2 to get a Bestower with 4 Cargo Expander I's, but never did the research so far.

I will agree with you on Amarr + Amarr Indy... Its the best tier 1-3 industrial, I think only the tier 4 minamatar(?) beats it in space IIRC.

Hmm, I'm at work, so I can't check my character, but yes, the Bestower and four cargo expanders will get you 9.something K m3. Some of my skills increased a while ago, I forget which ones affect the expanded cargoholds, but I currently have over 10K m3 cargohold in my Bestower. I'm nearly a month old character, but I've had the Bestower since a couple days in. Not long at all to get her. ----- All men can see these tactics whereby I conquer, but what none can see is the strategy out of which victory is evolved. |

Getting over 10k is really easy with a number of races. If you have racial indy 3 and named expanders, i believe all races save caldari can get over 10K.

I have amarr indy lvl-3 and equip 4 cargo expansion 1`s,not named and i have 10702 cargo space(good return for minimal skills and cheap modules), with the iteron V i understand with named expanders, top skills you can get 20k+ cargo space.Plus using the weird anomoly of giant secure cargo containers holding more cargo than they take up,(3000 units cargo space needed, but they hold 3600units...very strange)you can extend these figures further.

I bet it's easy with named Expanders . However, I was more interested in the least skill and ISK intensive route for new players that require a hauler alt. Should have been a bit more clear there.

I use a sigil just because im too lazy to train anything else and it meets my needs. 5 low slots (for nanofibers or cargo expanders) and 2 high slots for tractor beams, which is plenty sufficient for picking up loot on missions which is all I use it for.
