Following the deployment of Hyperion 1.3 on September 2 we discovered an issue with the Mac client: While the EVE Launcher starts correctly for the Mac client, it is not possible to log into Tranquility at the moment.
The bug has been identified already and the devs are working on a fix. Unfortunately it will take some time to test and deploy this fix. As soon as more information is available, we will update this thread. Please not that this bug affects only the Mac client.
We apologize for this issue and the inconvenience caused by this bug. CCP Phantom - Senior Community Representative - Volunteer Manager |

According to the thread in the Mac sub forum it's been happening for at least a few DTs, with no fix...

So open terminal, export, then cd to launcher folder and ./launcher |

Yesterday i lost a 100mil ship because of game freeze and when i reconnected i was in pod. Some days ago, the server was inaccessible for a full day. There is always bugs, all the time and of course it is never ccp fault, and when you ask for a refund because you lost a ship because of their socket close bugs and others, they don't reply or say no. And we are paying them for this. If it is so buggy and unplayable, stop making pay peoples, make it open source |

Go to the search glass top right, type 'terminal' and choose the application you find. Then just enter the command anywhere, do this every time you want to start the game.
export COMPUTERNAME=`hostname -f`;open /Applications/EVE\ Online.app
Exactly as there, the direction of the quotes matter etc so copy/paste |

Was it useful to use some of the logs noted here: https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Mac_bug_reporting#Generating_Log_Files ? |

Similar here. I imagine this has something to do with the fact that Steam likes to place things in ambiguous and ridiculous folders. |

For people who don't know how to do this work around, it's relatively straight forward.
1) Open your applications area and scroll down to Utilities 2) Open it and look for terminal 3) Once open, copy "/Applications/EVE\ Online.app/Contents/MacOS/launcher" (excluding the quotation marks) and just paste it into the terminal area. 4) Press enter and the launcher should open by itself. It will come up as a different icon compared to what will usually pop up.
This is what worked for me, and i haven't messed around with EVE's files or moved it or anything like that. Can't say it will work for everyone but that's how i did it.
N.B. You should leave terminal RUNNING the whole time you are using the game. I closed mine and the game shut down with it so just keep that in mind. i'm not tech savvy so if a captain wants to explain why that happened, feel free to.
Edit - I can no longer access the game using this way. not sure if it's because of closing the terminal or what... |

To fix the problem on Mac with Steam I had to do the following:
1) Open a Terminal window. 2) type this: sudo pico /etc/launchd.conf * You'll have to type in your password. 3) In the text editor, copy/paste this: setenv COMPUTERNAME anyname 4) Press CTRL-O and hit enter to write the file. 5) Press CTRL-X to exit the editor. 3) type this: launchctl < /etc/launchd.conf; sudo launchctl < /etc/launchd.conf * This applies the changes to launchctl without having to restart the computer.
After that, Eve started fine.
The reason the original workaround posted above won't work for Steam is because of the way Eve needs to be loaded from Steam itself. This fixes the problem by making the COMPUTERNAME environment variable operating system wide. So you can just start Eve normally. This should work for non-Steam OS X users as well. |

CCP- Since you guys obviously no longer test changes (as demonstrated in Crius), could you please make an attempt to be helpful in this situation. You are preventing paying customers from playing the game. I understand that you cannot give a time estimate and are working on it. Might I suggest that you do 2 things to notify us of updates to the fix:
1- Create a new thread in this section of the forum titled :"Mac issue updates" and lock it. This way we can subscribe to it, and get notifications when you unlock it, post updates, and lock it again. Subscribing to a thread that will no doubt be a dozen pages long by the end of the day is not a good option. 2- Post updates to the fix process on social media. Use both Facebook, Twitter and Google+. That way people who don't have constant forum access can get notifications.
Your current approach will just **** of a section of your customers that already feel forgotten by CCP. |

The temporary workaround works. However, chalk this up for another justification for developing a standalone Mac client. |

The lack of vitriol in this thread is delightful compared to the nastiness of the "general population" of Eve customers. Please let's not descend into darkness. You're frustrated, that's ok- You're a paying customer and you can't play. Unfortunately sometimes things take time. I agree the mac client doesn't always get the love it deserves, but it exists, and that is certainly saying something in comparison to other developers. Autodesk for example- Design software. No way to run it on a mac except in a VM. The only reason I have to dirty my hands on windows is because of effing Autodesk Inventor.
@CCP: You have a mac client. Seriously. Remembering the days when I had to run the PC client as a VM, and before that I had to bootcamp my mac to run the client, and before that have two systems, one for getting stuff done and one for Eve, let me say thank you thank you thank you thank you for remembering us mac users at all. Most software developers go to the lowest common denominator, you made our lives easier. Thanks for working on the fix.

They thank you by giving you access to the game and supporting the Mac client that only a very small minority of users will use. Secondly, PLEXing your account is more supportive to CCP due to the fact that a PLEX is marginally more expensive than a regular subscription.
So please, thank CCP and thank PLEXers for supporting the Mac client you, I, and a handful of other players use. |

Since the fix doesn't work in my iMac (my only way to play it) you could try fix it soon or do something about it cause I have paid for X days of play and I wouldn't like not being able to play something I've paid for. You could extend the account days for the bug period until it's being fixed.

[quote=Andrew Breslin]For people who don't know how to do this work around, it's relatively straight forward.
This is finally worked for me as well. THX

Very simply put, every time you open an application, everything you see in the command line in Terminal using your workaround happens behind the scenes. The only difference here is that you're seeing it and have the option to close the process that owns the other processes of opening EVE. |

This issue must have been part of the client, not the emulator. Hence everyone gets the same update, whether you need it or not.

Yes, you crashed me on one character and it wouldn't let me do the patch while the other one was still logged in.
I had to do a complete reset before it got over the nervous breakdown you put me through.
I've been having frequent fatal video card crashes and downloading the graphics drivers hasn't helped - this could be because I've been playing a FPS in 3D, removing that section of the upgrade hasn't helped either, as I don't have multiple GPUs.
Please give me a better solution than run DDX_Diags. l8r \o/ |

Alright, so I was having a problem where the launcher was working fine, but I could not log onto the game itself. I would sign in and then it wouldn't do anything. I took this opportunity to upgrade to the newest version of Mac OS and low and behold I can log in now. I am guessing this will be the fix for a few of you as it was for me.
tldr; Upgrade to newest version of Mac OS then try again. You can do this by going to the App store and on the right side you should see OS X Mavericks. It should be free to download. Hope this helps. |
