Old machine: DFI nforce3 350gb 2 gig ocz platinum memory - running single channel only agp 6800 vanilla amd 3400+
New machine: asus A8N5X nforce4 2 gig ocz platinum memory - dual channel ATI X850XT Amd 3800+
the new machine is clearly better and im getting 50-75 less FPS. i have all the latest drivers. this is my first time with an ATI card.. any suggestions?

Well from what I can see form your specs,And I am no doubt a tad out :)
The AMD 3400 - is a single core cpu . your 3800 - is a dual core. the 3800+ although a higher number actually does not have a higher clock speed.( roughly equivalent to 2x AMD 3200.
and If I remember rightly runs at approx 100Mhz slower than your original chip.
I take it you have added the dual support fix to eliminate cpu lag.
Also Afaik the 6800 Gfx chip is a faster chipset than the 850XT tho lacking in 2d support.Even tho the current Eve engine relies more on raw cpu over Gfx engines.
I am as previously described no doubt slightly out in my maths however dont dual channel memory setups actually halve the amount of physical usable memory - but allow faster access ?
Good luck in your de bugging / pimping.

the new processor is a single core 3800+. the 3400+ 754 and 3800+ 939 operate at the same core speed..2.4 ghz... however the 3800+ is faster.
The X850XT has a high core, more memory, better memory, memory speed and more pipes than a vanilla 6800. the X850XT outperforms the 6800GT and is typically on par with the 6800 Ultra is almost every benchmark ive seen.
Ive run 4 benchmarking programs, all of which show a performance boost of 25-40%. On every game ive played so far, there is a significant performance increase with the exception of THIS game.
i really dont wanna have a my old system vs new system discussion. the new system is faster. theres no comparison. im just trying to figure out what the hell is going on with eve.

Maybe EVE is more optimized for your old setup than your new setup? Sometimes games will be optimized for certain video cards/processors.
The following is not about the problem at all, and is really a tangent:
It's a little misleading to call the 3800+ "faster" than the 3400+. What the 3800+ has over the 3400+ is that the 3800+ has Virtualization technology support, the SSE3 instruction set (more instructions available to it), and it has a faster bus. The 3800+ can't crunch numbers faster than the 3400+. However, the 3800+'s faster bus means it can theoretically fetch data from RAM significantly faster (if the motherboard is compatable). Virtualization technology has nothing to do with games (it's about virtual machines, so you can run multiple OS's at once, I think). The SSE3 instruction set only helps if EVE has been optimized for the SSE3 instruction set. The faster bus makes it so that the CPU doesn't have to wait as long to get it's data from RAM. As far as I can see, the only thing significantly "better" about the 3800+ is that has a faster hyper-transport bus. And this makes less of a difference if you get a lot of cache-hits. But it makes a lot of difference if you get a lot of cache-misses.
And to the other guy: dual channel memory doesn't decrease performance at all. From what I understand, the "disadvantage" of dual channel memory is that memory modules must "match". The wiki wasn't very descriptive.

I also have 2gb of ram and an AMD 3800+ and X850 ATI :) and the game is running well for me.
Have you opened up your prefs.ini and changed the buffer size to like 1024? And add "advancedDevice=1" to the file as well and then you can go into the Graphics tab of your EVE options in-game and make sure that your v-sync is off. Make sure you have downloaded the CPU timing fix from the AMD website and have the most up to date nForce drivers. I've also heard that the nForce audio can mess with EVE so you may try turning it off.
Lastly, what seemed to help for me was to disable my Windows page file completely. Since you have 2gb of ram you really shouldn't have any problems without a page file. I run very well now.
38fps in asteroid belts 42fps in warp 45fps near the station 120fps inside the station
These seem like good FPS numbers to me, and the outside ones feel better than 40fps to me when I jerk the camera around everywhere I get no lag at all, so...
What FPS numbers were you seeing on your old system? I'm told tweaking the CPU affinity for EVE can also help things.

*sigh*
this is NOT a dual core chip this is NOT a dual core chip
Chip
AMD Dual-Core Optimizer timing software would be completely ******* pointless to dl.
On the old rig, I was getting ~200 fps in station, 60-90 fps in space depending on situation.

So ignore that part of the advice and do the rest of what I said. Don't spaz out about it...

Im vexed. I have a Asus A8n5x Mobo and a AMD 3000+ @ 2.0 Gigs and I get about 150 frames in station with a x800 gto2. Also give some more info your system like your power supply and harddrives.

Battou. Those fps specs i posted were on my old rig (see first post).. tweakguides.com has a nice xp guide. after turning off services etc. my fps goes up about 30-40pnts. psu is an antec truepower 480w. hdd = 160gig sata seagate.

Orly I'll have to give it a try.

If your mobo has onboard sound, and you are not using it, disable it. I know it sounds rather odd to be messing with this to increase your fps and when I had serious eve issues back in the day this solved it for me. I hope it dose for you too.
