Edited by: Preliator on 29/07/2006 15:13:00 The vulture gave another violent shudder as it was buffeted by the upper atmosphere of the planet. The mechanized voice of the computer echoed through the ship with the words, ôBrace, brace, brace.ö Crew rushed to find cover, waiting for impact, while Captain Beren tried frantically to keep the ship together from inside his pod. Every deck in the ship went black as all power was diverted to the shipÆs shields. An earsplitting crunch was heard throughout the ship, objects and people flew through the air. But it was not over. The vulture class command ship had just survived re-entry, it had not yet survived touchdown. The constant juddering dampened slightly as the ship descended past 13,000 metres. Varel slowly stood up from behind the computer console to glance at the approaching fate through the command deckÆs windows. Ten kilometers down and en-counting all they could see was pure white snow. The juddering steadily returned as the rate of descent increased. The three words echoed again as the ground got closer. The Vulture shook violently, the sound of scraping and distorting metal rang through the hull as one of the six wings sections was ripped clean off. ôImpact in 25 secondsö Beren exclaimed through the ships voice comms, one of the few systems that were still functioning. All eighty crew members dived for cover one last time. Sparks flew, lights flickered. Silence. Everything was silent, for what seemed like an eternity. This eternal moment was violently interrupted by a confusion of deafening sounds: Scrapes, explosions, rumbles, as well as screams, both of human and metal origin. A thunderous crump and all was silent once more. Beren felt the liquid drain rapidly from the pod as it opened. Unplugging himself, he scanned the pod bay. Sparking wires dangled, twisted struts lay across the walkways and visibility was severely limited by the thick smoke. Suddenly Beren became aware of the cold air inside the pod bay, and looking up he saw a slice of bright light through a breach in the hull. Clambering over the debris, he reached the two sliding doors, but before he got to them, they scraped open. Stood on the other side was his first officer; Varel.
