As a new player I would like to say that I like this game... if I did not, I would not have subscribed. But the AI is ridiculously STUPID. As soon as any ship aggravates an enemy, those enemies follow/victimise that target long after it has ceased to be a threat, leaving it open for any other ships to slaughter said enemy. Is it beyond the wit of man for the AI to consider something that is:
1) In range & 2) Firing on them & 3) A bigger threat (more powerful ship)
... a priority target over something that is none of the above? Please advise.

Ah, I see... is there some implicit agreement with the developers that this is a PvP game? and that no effort has/will/should ever be put into the AI? It's all becoming clear.

Well dont be grumpy...
Fact is: yes we are aware of these problems and yes they should be fixed.
Personally i would say: Less npc (units), more strength and better AI, so they orbit you, try to dotch your fire...Stay out of your NOS range after you nossed em once...etc etc
Also make em cycle than find the guy with the weakest tank (in gang) and kill that guy off etc etc _________________________________________________

The AI is the reason why lvl4 missions are so easy and why they haven't released lvl5s yet.
Since the NPCs all focus fire on one ship, thh lvl5 mission has to be easy enought to be tanked by one man, but then they'll be too easy for a lvl5 and it will just further discourage teamplay.
C'mon CCP! Rework the AI so more players can tank and relaese vl5s oh, and ibtl btw...

This is a pvp game. If you want smart enemies, go after ones that have a brain and not computer hardware, like I do. You can always outsmart a computer, no matter how complex the AI is (at least at this point), so even if it were buffed the ways player's outsmart them would just get that much more complex. Look at the CONCORD exploits.

As mentioned above, it is a PvP game. I've seen at least one of the Devs refer to the PvE content as something to do when other members of your corp/alliance aren't online.

If you're not impressed by the PvE content now, you really don't want to have seen what it was like a couple of years ago.
Having said all that, as the game grows and matures this side of the game is improving. The AI isn't quite as stupid as it used to be - it does occasionally switch targets these days. Just don't hold your breath waiting for smart NPCs.

Well, considering the MMORPG which are PvE based have stupid AI also, Eve isn't doing too bad.
I do agree though, it wouldn't take much to make the NPC a little more intelligent.
So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong and to strike at what is weak.

Actually in a game like EvE, it is quite hard to make NPC a little more intelligent because of game mechanics. You can only make NPC intelligent by cheating i.e. no limit to cap, stronger hp/resistance/etc. Imagine two players facing each other in space 50km away from each other and they need to fight like in tournament. F1, F2, F3, ... ---------------- RecruitMe@NOINT!

This is a pvp game. If you want smart enemies, go after ones that have a brain and not computer hardware, like I do. You can always outsmart a computer, no matter how complex the AI is (at least at this point), so even if it were buffed the ways player's outsmart them would just get that much more complex. Look at the CONCORD exploits.
No way you can outsmart all stuff, IF npc start cycling targets, scan your ship and use a different AI, Lets say move fast when they scan a raven or try to kill the guy with the weakest tank, how are you gonna outsmart it....
Thats right by giving each other remote reps, remote sensorboost and remote trackingboost to counter NPC ew.
and TADAAAA teamwork....
Btw im in a corp called "mercenary forces", we only npc when we are short on money, so im aware this is a pvp game  _________________________________________________

Well when the AI is this predictable anything would be an improvement... even if they just randomly target switched every couple of mins it would be better than the current situation.

If CCP would fix the AI, there would be so much flaming from certain carebears who die to npcs that this forum would probably burn up.

dude what you think this is the matrix? AI cant be smarter than its creaters. else all hell breaks lose. besides he aint gonna be traded. my boy is a sixer for life.

NPCs in this game are ONLY for acquiring funds for PvP. They are not supposed to be hard or challenging!
Every PvE thing in EVE is soloable (though some require crazy expensive faction ships/mods) or duoable (with just standard t2 mods.)

I've seen this discussed before and one major issue that was bought up was the complete lack of a Taunt.
The question is if we were given the option to have tactics similar to that of fantasy MMOs by introducing such an ability would we want to? |

Here we go... It's finally happening... The Wow kids are trying make this a PvE game...
Why do you need a taunt when all PvE stuff is soloable? And PvP already has a taunt: it's called SMACK TALK

Actualy i'm quite the neutral to the point. It has been brought up before. People have talked about a special module for forcing an enemy to attack so i'm interested in current opinions. __________________________________________
