I've thought about this a fair ammount, and something that has always bothered me about the assault launcher is the fact that it makes any cruiser with them into what is essentially an anti-frigate pwnmobile. The cerberus, in particular, with assualt launchers and precision lights, slaughters frigs in a way no destroyer or dictor could hope to. This partly robs an interesting role from the "lower" ship classes.
Also, introducing a new launcher or even modifying the existing assault missile launcher and introducting a new class of missiles isn't as efficient as this idea:
Why not lower the assault launcher's RoF and increase its ammunition consumption rate to something that gives it a higher DPS than the heavy launcher in the way that torps are more powerful than cruise? Then, apply a precison and target nav penalty (due to the "shotgun" type aproach) to it to prevent frig pwnage? You then have a shorter range, somewhat more powerful cruiser weapon that eliminates the need to do anyting but modify one module (assualt launcher), while removing the total frig-pwning capabilities of a class that really shouldn't have them.
Thoughts?

Or just remove the ability to fit light missiles when assault missiles are finished?

Edited by: Prometheus Wrong on 29/07/2006 19:23:56 That would work too, but if you just change the way it uses lights, you don't have to introduce more missiles, and you also create the first weapon in eve that has a "charge rate" greater than 1. It has also been suggested that some of the devs don't WANT to change the assault launcher, but introduce a new launcher alltogether.
I think a volley-fire weapon is a bit more interesting, and probably (only the devs would know) requires less work. Just a suggestion, as it seems it's taking a while to get assault missiles off the ground.

Why do people use assualt precisions instead of precision heavies?

well, there are already many cries that t2 missiles are easier to train than t2 guns. actualy the new skill and missile type is needed to be able to introduce equivalent t2 skill trees to t2 guns. right now there is no equivalent to medium short range guns, thus the missile skill tree is incomplete. ------------------------------ at least fit ECCM before you start crying how overpowered ECM is. |
