Once you finish the Tutorial and initial agent missions you have shot some stuff, mined some stuff and transported some stuff - along the way you'll hvae realised to get those skills training. So a week or so in and the skills you are trying to ramp up take a long time to train so you look about for something meaningful to do in your rookie (or very badly equipped other) ship . . . And the options might appear a bit of a grind. However, there are all these corps out there with the promise of interesting Co-op play, so you come here. And read pages of similar-sounding recruitment threads. It's hard to distinguish between them so you ask about membership levels, timezones, ethos and all the rest. The result so far has been being treated very tentatively - and I can understand this - who wants to invest time bringing onboard a Rookie who may not stay ? But for my part the equation is the other way around : Will I stay if my only option is grinding out 10k ISK missions or getting 6k per frigate-load of Ore ? I like to think that I will - quietly getting ISK and training those skills to let me get more out of my ship but to be really really honest I'd much rpefer to be involved with a group of mature-minded Corps members who I can both learn from and help out in a variety of roles. I've wasted (my fault) a couple of days trawling this thread and visiting various websites trying to find somewhere that seemed genuinely open to a rookie with limited screen time (MAX 2-3 hrs per day, and not every day) due to RL but who were serious enough to be receptive to getting said rookie onboard right away. I'll keep looking. I know this may come across as a little 'uppity' from a noob - but it's not meant that way. Have any other rookies found this ? Or does anyone read this and think 'hey, you need to talk to these guys . . . ' ? Thoughts and opinions welcome, Tir

I have also been looking on the recruitment forums and there are a lot of threads that say noobs make good tacklers and most corps would love to have you. they say that you lern a lot about PvP while being the tackler until your skills are higher. This does not seem to be the case though, as most corps require a minimum 5 million SP (even saw some that require up to 20 mil SP). Now 5 mil SP seems to be about 5-6 months of training, which means we have to spend a lot of time doing the boring things the OP describes above. I know a lot of smaller/newer corps will take us but the problem with them is thier inactivity, noone is ever on. The things most Alliences describe in their recruitment threads are the things that drew us noobs to the game, its just Dissapoionting that we have to wait 6 months to play the real game...... I remember when I was a rookie (not that long ago even in the grand scheme of things) and was lucky enough to be taken into a small group of friends and taught the ropes. After that Corp disbanded I found some great people and we were all tired of looking for a corp, joining, and then leaving because it wasn't what we were looking for, or because we were only a number. That's when we founded Astromecha Industries. We are a smallish corp of good friends out to have fun and make some ISK at the same time. Rookies are always welcome at ASMEC and we do have a few spaces left open. Group mining ops net equal splits for all involved regardless of your role in the op or amount of ore mined. That is why when they all decided to play I started a new character and we started a crop just for newer players. Infinite Dreams Ic is dedictaed to helping it's members discover the infinite possiblities presented to them in the Eve universe. We provide a set of Learning Skill books for truly new players and offer basic frigates as well as other needed modules. We have some experienced players in our corp that help guide new players to their goals and we as a corp have a number of long term goals that will allow new players to grow with us as they grow. Tsual Minmatar	Posted - 2006.07.30 20:08:00 - [9] Heh when I was a rookie I think around the 3rd or 4th day I got dropped 4 or 5 recruitment mails ignored them and never saw any later. Today I'm a solo corporist however can't say it is all that bad, perhaps a bit slower and sometimes lonely yet it can still be a good way to start out in eve and you can join up an established group later. ******************** Moral is only usefull so far as society demands it from one to accept his presence.

Thanks also to those who have contacted me in-game - particularly to a couple of HR folk who took the time to explain why many Corps are wary of Rookies - all very good reasons. However, after a while, you become more carefull. I liked the fact that we offered equal opportunity to all players, be they old or just a few days old, but after getting some spies, a corp thief and some alt's that stopped logging in after the first sign of trouble, we sharpened it up a bit. If you try to be idealistic about accepting the very new players, you do get burned in EVE, so I can understand the entry requirements set up by the older corps in EVE a lot better now. We still accept new ppl (over 14 days minimum), so feel free to drop me an EVEmail if you are interested in a pirate corp.

We're always recruiting, too. We take great satisfaction in helping rookies get adapted to the game. You know, so long as you want to get adapted to group mining in the middle of high security Minmatar space.

But overall, I think that now, it's harder for a rookie to find a corp than it was, say, 1 year ago. I remember this forum filled with recr. threads of top corps looking for pilots. Now, it's mostly new, relatively unknown corps that have the majority here.

It's certainly a very interesting but enjoyable growth curve that we go through, and I think that those who have been around for years forget what it's like. I joined my corp pretty much staright away after joining th egame and I have come on leaps and bounds since joining. I know have a bs, and I'm only about 1 and half months into the game. I have been given lots of help by my corp members, advice on setup and skill training being the main advantage they have given me.
