What sense does it make to operate a POS in empire ? Can the POS in empire generate more money than it consumes ? What standing is needed to operate a POS in 0.58 system, a 5.8 or 5.0 standing to the faction ? |

Reserch for more then 30 days. In some cases that would be enough. I think any way its been a while.

POS in empire have multiple possible ways to make isk or be otherwise usefull. Examlpes are;
-ice refining pos in system with no station, pirates all around but hell lot of very good ice. We planned that before moving to 0.0, it have profit potential near to mining best ores in 0.0 (as far as we compare maxed mackinaw with maxed covetor, well mackinaw IS more expensive, but its still quite affordable, like 160 total or something), but You dont have to tank NPC BS spawns, and high sec is only few jumps away and You refine ice at 100% in POS, yay!
-laboratories in high traffic areas can be more than helpfull for a big production corp operation there, as with high trafic space, You wait months in ME research queue.
-pirate hideout in lowsec? Much much fun :)
-reactions, if You cant build the whole chain in 0.0 because You're a small corp not a big alliance, You can make reactions on moon materials directly from market, and take advantage of fact, that You are very near to that market. Reactions are profitable if Yuo can only find sellers and buyers and logistics may be considerably easier in high sec.
-capital production in a never used lowsec system? Shuld work :) --- Bookmark improvements Player owned brokers |

Another advantage: There are no dreadnaughts in high sec empire space (unless you specifically build them there) so taking down an empire POS will require a large and patient armada of battleships. This means you can cut down on defenses, which means lower fuel consumption, which means it's easier to make a net profit.
Regarding the standing, from my experience it's the sec level displayed by the map which determines the standing needed. I.e. if a 0.53 system is displayed as 0.5, then you need a 5.0 standing.

reiterating the point above research empire POS's are awsomely useful. They save a huge amount of time ud otherwise spend queuing. Also, in 0.5+ systems u can "rent" them out to other players who apparently pay exorborant sums to use the service. I dont know much about this part of empire research POS' but i hear of it alot so it must work somehow.
Of course it only seems practicable to run a highsec (0.5+) POS in a solo corp where ur character has a standing of 5+ with the faction whose space it is. Shame really, but thats the way it is i guess _______________________________________________ The above comments & views do not reflect the opinions of Cosmic Odyssey or Chorus of Dawn; just those of an enlightened member |
