Edited by: Xelios on 07/10/2003 17:36:19 Apparently all the problems these cards are having are related to the card itself, everyone's waiting for ATI to release new drivers. The card runs on a completely new core chipset so there's some pretty major compatibility problems, especially with running on AGP 8X. Here's a really good thread detailing the problems, and some possible fixes and workarounds while we wait for ATI to get their act together:

In the mean time, I wouldn't sell the 9600 pro just yet if you have one, according to recent tests it's probably one of the best cards out there to overclock. You can easily take it up to the speed of a 9800 with some additional cooling. People have gotten over 170mhz more core speed out of them without graphics corruption, so all this waiting for new drivers should pay off in the long run ;)

I'm thinking of replacing the 9800 Pro with the 9800 standard though - I've heard a simple BIOS patch and some ram sinks can turn a 9800 into a Pro.

Huh?
Why would you buy a crapper card just to overclock it to make it like the card you already have?
Because it's easy?
ú70 difference between 9800 Standard and Pro.
The patching and clocking takes around 3 minutes.

I had massive problems using my ati radeon 9700 pro, but they all disappeared when I started using the new amd XP core (no clue what its called) and an nForce chipset on my mainboard.

I have a 9600 pro - finally found that to play some games (including eve but others) you need to turn all the SMARTGART off (5 options with latest catalyst) and back on to play everything else. :)

So... is it just the 9600 cards? I'm looking at buying an X800... wondering if any of you have any idea whether that will work...
Thanks,
