Can people take things from your container while you are alive? |

yup, they can take from it if its not a secure can, IE; one youve just jetsonned out. They will get themselves aggroed though so can be shot back at. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If it's a jetcan, yes.
The thief will get a popup warning reminding them that they are about to commit a criminal act. If they go ahead anyway, you, your gang & your corp (player corp, not NPC corps) will have 15 minutes to deal out some justice.
Of course, this may be rather hard to do if you are just armed with mining lasers.
However, if you have a Secure Container (that has been anchored and passworded) they cannot nick anything... unless you give them the password. _______

if you do steal from a container does the owner get a message saying you did or would they only find out when they got back n it was gone?

The owner does not get a message, no.
However the thief will show up on the owner's Overview as a valid target to kill, if in the same area of space.
The thief will have a countdown on the top-right of the screen (mousing over reveals all aggressions, if more than one). _______

Gang is not involved. Only your corp (this includes you) may open fire.

I'm don't think you can pod them though.

IIRC you're right, can theft should be like being attacked as a pirate, you'd get 15min from the time of the last aggressive act of that player to kill them. Once the threat (i.e., their ship) has been removed, you're not allowed to finish them off without being CONCORDed.

So if he stole my ore, I've got 15min to kill him, but can he fight back without getting Concordpwned or is it a one-way butt-kicking contest?
I've had two incidents of ore theft:
One time, I was filling my jetcan when someone flew up next to me, dropped a secure can, then the contents of my can vanished (into his secure can?), his can vanished and he warped out leaving me without my ore. I didnt get an aggression countdown against him and dont recall him turning red in the overview. Is that an exploit?
Last night, someone showed up, flat out grabbed my can (his name flashed red in the overview) and warped right out of there. But, he wasnt listed in my kill rights folder, so how can I tell anyone in my corp his name?

You can always defend yourself. In this case, if you fire on him, he can shoot back without Concord getting involved.

Incident 1 sounds like an exploit if you're not missing out any details - you don't get an aggression countdown, but he should have flashed red to you.
Incident 2 is the system working as intended - kill rights is for when your ship is destroyed unlawfully, not for people who steal your ore. The only way to tell anybody in your corp the name of thief is to be within sight of your can and pay attention to anybody who gets too close.

Edited by: John McFly on 02/08/2006 11:52:20 Am I supposed to get a red aggression countdown in the upper left of the screen (like I do with yellow ones whenever I blast rats in the belts) showing how long I have to kill him? I didnt get one for either of the incidents (even when the guy's name flashed red).

If you read my comment about the first incident again, no you won't get an aggression counter. However once you shoot him, one will pop up. Player aggression counters are the same colour as rat ones, ie yellow, at least the ones I get are.

A way (in theory, as I have not tested it) is to have combat drones in your mining craft or another corp mate standing by nearby. Ensure you have a webifier and a warp destablizer and you should be able to hold them in place until your drones take them, or your buddy warps in... Unless they warp out before you get a lock... You should be able to survive... Should. Live by the Sword, Die from Bravado. |

If he was quick, your overview might not have refreshed to show him change red to indicate that he was a valid target. Had you closed then re-opened your overview it should have showed him change red. It would only be an exploit if you shot him after he stole your stuff and you still got concord'ed.
Originally by: John McFly Last night, someone showed up, flat out grabbed my can (his name flashed red in the overview) and warped right out of there. But, he wasnt listed in my kill rights folder, so how can I tell anyone in my corp his name?
Kill rights only come when you are killed (without fighting back??? someone else please confirm). Kill rights do not have time limitations. (again please confirm) You will not receive kill rights when someone takes your stuff. You just have 15 minutes to hunt him down. Unless you are prepared to attack him on the spot you are not likely to see him again. Warning, he might be prepared to fight back.
When jet can mining you just have to be suspisious of anyone who approaches your can. Theives are just another one of the risks involved with mining. There are lots of tactics to deal with them, just pick one that works best for you.

Kill rights happen for unprovoked attacks... Stealing is a flag and works differently than kill rights and is temporary, whereas kill right last 30 days.. only a week left on one guy who can kill me :D Live by the Sword, Die from Bravado. |

I was a victim of this last night... The way the whole thing played out was almost funny. It started with the accursed thief approaching my can as I was mining in my cruiser. I saw him coming straight at me and my can so I target locked him, recalled my mining drones and launched my medium hammerheads. I then opened up a chat with him and asked him to back off, this was my ore, to which he replied "not any more".
A friend of his in a cruiser warped in next to us and his hauler left... I think to go unload before scooping up the 29k ore in my can. The enemy cruiser created a jetison can of his own and then transferred everything out of mine to his. I expected to get some sort of alert at that point that I could attack him, but didn't, and after reading this thread I now know why. Not that I was willing to try and tackle a cruiser with just 3 hammerheads and only mining lasers and cargo expanders fitted.
This is the amusing part... someone else from a completely different corp came charging in with a big indy and grabbed the ore out the enemy cruiser's can and then warped off. I'm fairly certain they were not allied because the cruiser tried to warp scramble the indy as he was taking off with the now twice-stolen ore. Needless to say, I've adjusted my standing with all three of the vermin into the negative!
Does webbing or warp destabilizing count as something that Concord will stomp on you for if you do it to someone *before* they steal your ore? For example, if I see someone in an indy coming to steal my ore in a jetcan am I able to scramble and web them *before* they take it?
Also, let's say the indy is the one who actually takes the ore out of my can... when I attack him (without Concord interfering now), are his corporation members able to attack me freely then during the aggression period, or is he the only one allowed to defend himself (ie: if his corp members attack me they'd get Concord-stomped)?
Thanks very much for any insights into this issue, Wred

I could be wrong on this, but I don't think any member of the gang will see the agro if they are in a different corp. I had a guy steal from me (I let him so I could kill him, but I didn't get him...lol Darn warp stabs), but he never started blinking red to my alt who is still in the NPC corp.

Dude.. that is just wrong. I take it you aren't in a corp? If you are, you should have sent up the red flag and get as many of your corp there if this ore was that important, or hell, even the principle of it all.
The cruiser coming in and taking your ore and putting it into his can would flag him and you and your corp could have attacked him. But here is the kicker. You take the ore out of his can that he took from your can and you are attackable by his corp. So it just becomes a pretty silly little game.
You should post the corp names involved :P

Anyone? Is there a scanner that can scan the contents of containers like say the ship cargo scanner or is the only way to fly within 1500 metres and open cargo?

I used to toy with ppl who stole from me with a smaller ship by using a Warp Distruptor on them and destroying them with drones. There wasn't enough cpu for the warp distruptor, so I put one of my mining lasers offline and put online the Warp Distruptor (needs full capacitor). It took time, cause there wasn't room for too many drones. You can't pod them though.
