I have heard that laser t2 ammo can run out, like mining crystals. I was wondering if somebody could explain to me how you can tell when the ammo will run out.
Thanks

If I remember correctly the crystals take damage, you can see how much in there information.

If you want a sneak peak just get a faction crystal, those behave in the same way ;)

Crystals have a volatility level, which is their chance to take damage every time they're used. When they take enough damage, they'll blow up.
Crystals destroying themselves is a pain, but it's only fair. I honestly think normal crystals should blow up too, but so be it, they don't. Either way, T2 crystals are absolutely awesome.

They will show you how much damaged they are, just hold your mouse over them when fitted -> picture _____________________________________________ Our users will know fear and cover before our software! Ship it! Ship it and let them flee like the dogs they are!

FYI, they last about 1000 shots.

Agreed. IMO they should remove the chance factor, though, and just give each crystal a hard number of shots. That way you would at least know relyably when you need to get a new one.

No
There is a random chance they will take damage every time they fire. Once enough damage has been they will pop. The maths was explained a while back, but it worked out that on average you'll get about 1000 shots out of them.

Er.. yes.
This "1" is the "enough damage". It starts with 0.001 and goes upwards to 1.000.

After you used them a bit you'll see a "damage" stat in the crystals info. It start with 0.00 and goes upwards 0.01..0.02..etc When reaching 1.00 it breaks.
The annoying thing is that this damage is random. Meaning your crystals will break at different times, even if each has shot the same number of shots.

Aramendel - wrong too :)
Each shot has 10% (0,1) chance to damage crystal by 1% (0,01).
Thats why all crystals have only 100 "points" of damage but take em abt once per 10 shots - thus giving more-less 1000 shots per crystal.
If you are VERY unlucky - crystal will pop after 100 shots. If you are lucky it will work infinite number of times.
To be on safe side - count it for 1000 shots :)
Real combat situation? Aurora will outlast your ship probably, so will gleam. Scorch/conflagration... MAYBE will outlast larger ships, but on cruisers and intys it will burn down pretty fast.
And of course mission running burns thru ammo very fast :) (i use up whole set per 3-5 missions lv4 on apoc - no damage mods).

Edited by: Imperial Coercion on 02/08/2006 14:13:49 To op, make sure you dont have any other types of ammo in your cargo hold, because when the crystal blow up it might cause a chain reaction that will cause your entire ship to explode.

*shrugs* I assumed it were 3 decimals because the "damage" stat of a crystal starts with 0.00 and not 0.01.
